The Great Hollow is a hidden area in Dark Souls that connects Blighttown to Ash Lake. Before the Age of Fire, the world was nothing but a desolate landscape of Everlasting Dragons and great stone Archtrees, and the Great Hollow is an example of the latter that has survived into the present day. The entrance to the area is well-hidden behind two illusory walls inside a gigantic tree at one end of Blighttown's poison swamp. The vertically-oriented Hollow contains an intertwined system of roots, creating many paths that can be explored, and there are several hidden items located here that can only be obtained by dropping down from a higher ledge.
Ten Crystal Lizards, the highest population of these creatures found in any single area in Dark Souls, can be hunted in the Hollow for their precious Titanite. Several Basilisks also lurk in this area and, further down, a handful of Mushroom Parents and Children. After descending carefully through the Great Hollow, players emerge from the tree onto a large white sandbar in Ash Lake.
