    Grindhouse Goodness 6

If there's one genre in particular that's experienced a bit of a renaissance since the introduction of the Wii, it's the on-rails light gun shooter. Games like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return have proven to sell well on Nintendo's little white box, so it seems only natural that Sega would try to go after that audience again with an all-new game. Thus we have Headstrong Games' House of the Dead: Overkill.A mad scientist and a stripper with a lust...

    They met as adversaries... 0

The Nintendo Wii is blessed with yet another original on-rails light-gun shooter (without the Light-gun) in the newest outing of the House of the Dead series titled House of the Dead: OVERKILL. SEGA left the developing responsibilities to UK developer Headstrong Games for the first House of the Dead game not created by the Japanese publisher house itself. The game is a prequel to the original House of the Dead released all the way back in 1996 and is the first in the series to skip an Arcade rel...

There is a button that reads "More Mutants." 0

While scientists theorize as to why the dinosaur went extinct, nobody will ask any questions as to why the light-gun shooter is on the endangered species list of genres. Nor will PETA or the WWF have any remote interest into saving the breed of zombie/terrorist shooting simulators. The arcade, their natural habitat, was deforested by the loggers of Time. Their unwillingness to adapt to modern standards made the public bored in their cause, and left them to be devoured by their evolutionary super...

    An exercise in commitment 0

House of the Dead: OVERKILL (yes the caps are part of the title) is a light gun game drowned in the, almost topical, style of exploitation flicks and b-movies (think the Rodriguez/Tarantino joint Grindhouse from 2007). This means you will see lots of gratuitous and "shocking" violence (zombies shoving a guy through a meat grinder), oversexualized female characters, and racial stereotypes. Oh and there will be cursing. A lot of cursing. But it's all part of the game's appeal. Like any so-bad-it'...

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA 1

probably the funniest game ive played sense...... well, a long time.  the voice acting is great, and the zombies are nice and bloody.  lots of unlockables makes me want to replay more and more. it feels like an old 70's buddy cop movie, but with a REDICULOUS amount of swearing.  dont have youre 5 year olds in the room when you're playing this, unless you want them to be a foulmouthed badass cop. And let me tell you ... without peer, this game has THE BEST ENDING EVER.  i will not say spoilers, j...

EXTRA! Gory Gun Game Gives Grief! 0

House of the Dead: Overkill attempts to continue the tradition of SEGA's gory gun games. Typically, players take on the role of a plainclothes agent in an attempt to stop the mega-lo-maniac intentions of a global corporations CEO. But what makes this title the bastard-child in the series is that unlike every other House' title, there was no arcade machine released to build an audience. A small consolation may be that previously featured on the Wii were the ‘classic' House' games numbers 2 and 3...

    just pure awesomeness!! 1

The House of the Dead: Overkill, is a completely over the top, b-movie style, first person shooter with some of the best humor in any game. The story follows special agent G and detective Isaac Washington as they try to stop the evil papa caesar and his hoard of mutants (not zombies, dont use the Z word) Each level has a completely different atmosphere and, for a wii game, looks amazing although you can't destory the environments. Sometimes, it seems that there is too much going on and the wii c...

House of the Dead; Overkill 0

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are two of cinema's most interesting filmmakers. For one, they have made cult classics over and over again in their relatively short careers, and yet still they turn their gaze to the forgotten genres. Their latest was 'Grindhouse', a gore filled, double feature homage to the 70s sleaze-pit cinema adventures that they so fondly remembered. Why, you may ask, is this cinema fact relevant to a Light-Gun Game on the Wii? Well, Overkill, the latest in the House o...

House of the Dead Overkill: A Reviewby KingreX32 0

House of the Dead Overkill was developed by Headstrong Games, and published by Sega. It was released February 10 2009, and is a new game in the House of the Dead series. House of the Dead Overkill is an on rails FPS, the game takes place in 1991 before the events of the first House of the Dead game. It shows a fresh out of the academy Agent G, being pared up with the hard drinking, always cursing Detective Isaac Washington. Together they are on the search for Papa Caesar (the creator the mutant...

Pisspoor calibration makes this unplayable 1

Light gun games as supposed to be light gun games. This is as far from a light gun game as you can come. This game is impossible to play with the OFFICIAL handgun cannon accessory due to calibration being very very very bad, making true iron sight aiming impossible.  If you want a true light gun game then do not buy this game!...

    Hmm. 0

"House of the Dead: OVERKILL is currently the Guinness World Record holder for the most profane video game of all time, with the word "fuck" uttered over 189 times throughout the game."  Says it all really.  Plus the game has the worst reloading-your-gun speed ever. House of the Dead 2's reload was instant and felt delicious. This feels clumsy and more often than not, you feel like you're powerless to react to zombies which take advantage of your pedestrian reloading speed. There's a charm to ...

    Suffer Like G Did? 0

If anything proves that B-movies and video games work well together it would have to be House of the Dead Overkill. Taking place several years before the original House of the Dead, players take on the roles of rookie AMS agent G and motor mouth Detective Washington to uncover the devious plans of notorious mobster Pa Pa Cesar. Overkill is built around an alarmingly 70s inspired grindhouse feature template. Washingon and G sit under the typical buddy cop stereotype of the time, being two ...

Utter garbage next to the other games of this type on the Wii 0

"Guided" shooters found a little niche on the Wii. Start with a well-known series like Resident Evil or Dead Space, take movement and camera control out of the player's hands, and take advantage of Wii motion controls to create a "point-and-shoot" game. There have been a couple of very successful games to implement this formula. Specifically, "Link's Crossbow Training" and "Dead Space: Extraction" have brought a new type of quality experience to the Wii. "House of the Dead: Overkill", on the oth...
