Overview
The iDOLM@STER Platinum Stars is a Management Rhythm game for the PlayStation 4 developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game took a whole new gameplay and graphical overhaul. Live events now play closer to traditional rhythm games where the player is prompted to press buttons as they appear on screen, rather than the decision based system used in previous titles.
It was the first in the console series to be released outside Japan, with Chinese and Korean language localization coming soon on September 28th.
Two brand new songs debut in Platinum Stars. "Happy!" and "The Live Kakumei de SHOW!". As well as 2 new medley songs "Kira Kira Ippai My Way! Medley" which plays "Kira me Kirari", "Ippai Ippai!" "Go My Way!", and "The H@ppy Live! Medley" which plays "The iDOLM@STER", "Happy!", and "The Live Kakumei de SHOW!"
Gameplay
The game took place in a camp where all 13 idol from 765 Productions live together in order to become the Top Idol by doing the Extreme Live.
The player assume the role of a producer where he must create a unit which consist of a leader and team mate which unlocks by producer level. The leader will undergone list of concerts and Rank concert which will unlock more concert and when the idol ready, will have to take the Extreme Live which consist of concert that's harder and must be cleared in Ex Clear.
Aside from Live concert, idol can also take several side job and lesson to boost it's stats, side job includes Normal Job which consist of publication work, Fundrasing which consist of fan meeting, and Lesson which consist of Cosmetic Lessons, Expression Lessons, and Burst Lesson all which will increase Experience, Omoide and Burst stats respectively.
Player also can change settings before entering concert which allows the player to set-up which idol will do the concert, change it's fashion attire which affects the stats, and change the music they will play on the concert.
Along side, player could also go to the Tailor where player could fuse extra fashion attire received after concert, or tailor a new one once they received 5 tailor coupon of each ranked coupon, and lastly player could also buy helper which helps the player during concert if they did a mistake, or if the player just wanted to boost the stats for current concert.
Player could also check e-Mail from the staff of 765 pro, which gives player tips and clue into playing the game, and if the player bought the e-Mail pack from PSN, player could also receive e-Mail from the idol they purchased which includes stories not critical to game progress.
Lastly, player are able to enjoy watching their idol doing concert for the player with Stage 4 You, where the player could choose which idol will perform, what music they going to perform, as well as their fashion attire, all of this won't affect the game progress and preset at all.
Concert
Concert is grouped into different rank level of idol, SP concert or Special concert which consist of special and event based concert, and DL concert or Download concert which is a time limited concert created by Bandai Namco themselves.
Each concert have specific theme which needed to be fulfilled or else the concert will be hard to be cleared. Also shown on the list is Acquired money, Acquired fans, Acquired Experience, and also Prize to get when finishing in Clear and Ex Clear.
Once selecting the concert, player could go ahead and leave the camp house to the concert area, or set-up who is going to go to the concert before hand.
Once leaving the camp house, player only able to set-up the selected idol on the concert, as well as their fashion attire, and music they going to play. Player aren't able to leave the concert until they finish the concert.
Selecting the right fashion attire is important to finishing the concert, while there's no extreme consequences by failing to choose the right fashion attire, the player will be punished with half scoring when choosing the incorrect theme of fashion. Player are free to select which ever music they want, along with the difficulty [Debut], [Regular], [Pro], and [Master]. Upon receiving a new music player only able to choose [Debut], and [Regular] which after playing and clearing the song will unlock [Pro]. Unlocking [Master] will require player to finish the Extreme Live of an idol and after the credit rolled player will be allowed to unlock [Master] on every music after playing [Pro].
While doing the concert, the player must play the rhythm game which consist pressing 3 different face button (Triangle, Square, and Circle) and pressing the X (Cross button) to unleash the burst appeal, also interacting with the touch-pad when the hand sign shown. When prompted with Star symbol, player are able to start the Extreme Burst where the score of each button pressed is multiplied until the burst mode ended.
Player are required to reach specific score to finish the concert, finishing the concert with score reaching the Ex Clear requirement will be rewarded with Extreme Clear rank, and at the end of the show, player will be presented with extra gift depending on the previously mentioned list on the concert list.
When the player finished certain number of live concert on the specific rank they are in, the idol leader they choose are able to enter Rank Up concert which have to be cleared in order to progress through the game. Upon finishing the player are shown a part of story of the idol they choose.
After each concert, player will be presented with the result screen showing each idol added stats, as well as the acquired fans, and money. Acquiring fans into certain point will reward the player with Producer rank up, along with that the player will be able to produce more idol, and rewarded with new song to progress with.
Side Jobs / Lesson
There are 2 types of Side Jobs and 3 types of Lessons that could be taken aside from Live Concert
The 2 Side Jobs are Fundraising Job where the current idol leader chosen will be raising fund for you by doing random activity such as sponsored content or public relation and Normal Job where the current idol will be doing publication services for their fans by doing fan meet or photo shoot.
Both Job will be evaluated by doing dice rolls, the dice given is valued by the current heart level the idol own, which can be increased by wearing better clothing. Every time you roll the dice, you're given chances to fix the outcome by re-rolling or by flipping the dice by tilting your controller, the dice that rolled out will be re-rolled onto the table and you can repeat the process until the timer runs out.
The 3 Lessons are Burst Lesson, Expression Lesson, and Cosmetic Lesson. Each helps increase the stats of the idol Burst, Omoide, and Experience respectively. Training is evaluated by doing various mini games.
Burst Lesson are played with the player aiming at the 9 different target with the PS face button shown, and pressing the button as fast as possible before the time runs out, the faster the player press the button the higher the score will be, the game will end when all target turned into a star.
Expression Lesson are played with the player shooting at the target text shown at the bottom of the screen, color coded and usually shown as 3 packs of it flying around on the screen. The player must shoot at the text as fast as possible before the time runs out, the faster the player shoot the target, the higher the score will be, the game will end when the target score achieved.
Cosmetic Lesson are played with the player shown several icon image representing a cosmetic image that are color coded, the icon will later be hidden and the player have to match the image requested after that, player have to guess as fast as possible before the time runs out, the faster the player guess, the higher the score will be, the game will end when the target score achieved.
