The King of Fighters '97 is the fourth installment in the King of Fighters series and the conclusive installment in the "Orochi Saga".

Concepts

Breast Bounce

The deliberate animation of breasts, either in an exaggerated fashion meant to titillate, or as a means to conform to more realistic physics.
Command Grab

In 2D fighting games, a command grab is a character-unique grab that is triggered by performing a special move command. It is the primary weapon of a "grappler" character.
Divine Punishment

A punishment set by the gods or in their name to a someone who has commited an offensive action towards them or the general good. If a third party (other than a god) delivers this punishment, the measure of such is given according to their point of view.
Double Knock Out

A double K.O. is a rare event when in an 1-on-1 fighting game both fighters reduce each others health to zero simultaneously. The methods used to score a Double K.O. as a round win or loss varies from game to game.
Full-Screen Attack

A full-screen attack hits the opponent no matter where they are. Often used by characters suffering from SNK Boss Syndrome.

Mirror Match

A fighting game concept in which a player using a particular character can fight against either the CPU or another player using the same character.
Naru Punch

A powerful punch, frequently capable of knocking the recipient off into the distance. Named after Naru Naruseqawa (Love Hina), who frequently uses it on Keitaro. It is also known as the "Megaton Punch", as seen in Disgaea and Pokémon.

SNK Boss Syndrome

SNK fighting games are notorious for boss fights of ludicrous difficulty. Common symptoms of SNK Boss Syndrome include absurdly high attack priority, overpowered special attacks, and AIs that read button inputs. Though it's most common in SNK games, the syndrome has also appeared in games by other companies.
Special Attacks

Featured mainly in fighting games, special attacks usually require more than just pressing a button to activate. They are usually unique or at least varied between characters.
Sprite Scaling

Whether it's Super Scaler, Mode 7, or Ray Casting, growing and shrinking sprites is a concept often used in sprite-based games. It was a popular technique used to create a 2.5D effect during the 16-bit era.
Super Meter

Commonly found in fighting games, a super meter increases when either a character takes or gives damage (depending on the game). There are many variations on the super meter, depending on the franchise or game.
System Voice

A disembodied voice that narrates or announces certain game aspects, like the round counts in fighting games or instructing the player to select a character.
Tag Teaming

Multiple fighters/people ganging up to fight another fight/group of fighter.
Team Deathmatch

A Multiplayer game mode where two or more teams fight against each other to the death. The team with the most kills wins.
Year in the Title

The title of a game is a year, or has a year in it. Normally used for sports game and other annual titles, but also used to designate when a game takes place rather than the year released.
