The player has the power gauge to perform special attacks but can use it to perform two other moves as well; such as "Armor Mode," with the use of three stocks from the power gauge, the player's character's power will increase and will start flashing yellow. The other feature is "Counter Mode,"when the player uses up the three stocks from the power gauge, the player can perform as many special moves as he or she wants.
The sixth installment of the KOF series adds a new hero, K', as well as several other new faces. The battles are still 3 on 3, but with the addition of a fourth character, the striker, whom can assist with a special attack during gameplay. Other new gameplay elements include strikers, the counter mode system, and armor mode system.

The King of Fighters '99 is the sixth King of Fighters game in SNK's The King of Fighters series. The game was ported to the Neo Geo CD, PlayStation, and Dreamcast.Gamplay Features
One of the new gameplay features that King of Fighters introduce is "Strikers," when the player picks the three characters for his or her team, the player must choose a fourth character as a Striker.
