10th Anniversary of The Greatest Game of All Time
"I believe the greatest game ever came out 7 months ago."what's that game you speak of?

"I'll have some cake, but will disagree with the Greatest Game of all Time stuff."Maybe not anymore. But there was a time when it was!
It truly is the greatest game of all time. I remember picking it up after my last college class before Thanksgiving break of my freshman year, speeding home from EB, and playing it for 14 straight hours pausing only for a few minutes to inhale a few slices of pizza. I played it for my entire Thanksgiving break. What an event! What a game! I remember after several weeks when I finally made it to Ganon's castle, I delayed beating the game for an additional 3 weeks because I didn't want it to end!
Happy Anniversary, Ocarina of Time!!! Have a piece of cake...you deserve it!
"Big rigs came out 5 years ago.completely agreed
title of topic should be "5th Anniversary of the Greatest Game of All Time.""
those were the best gaming days
only three games have ever left a big impression on me.
Halo: Combat Evolved
Super Mario 64
and the biggest of course is Zelda OoT
this game still holds up today
no game has measured up since.
will there ever be a game like that again
probably not (sigh)

Ocarina of Time stayed with me for a long time. Even today I sometimes feel like taking in the experience all over again, I even got up to unpacking my N64 out of the box! (then I remembered I had final exams coming up soon -_- )
There are other games that have had that effect on me, but none like this one; Which is why I agree to the title of greatest game of all time.

"OoT was a hell of a lot of fun, but it's nowhere near the greatest game of all time."I must courteously disagree. Even if you don't believe it's the greatest game of all time, it should be pretty close. It appears most game reviewing sites/critics rank it up there pretty high, so I think there's a credible argument against your "nowhere near" statement.
Out of curiosity, what do you think is the greatest game of all time?
I've never finished OoT... I have it on Virtual Console... must do my pilgrimage to Hyrule I think, pay homage to Zelda. I finished NES Zelda games, SNES Zelda games, but never N64, GC or Wii Zeldas... not sure why, I own all of them; from OoT three times over (N64, GC and Wii Virtual console versions), Wind Waker, Twilight Princess. Guess the 3D aspects was too much to handle after A Link to the Past, but if it is the 10th anniversary... that's a damn fine excuse for anyone to find a copy of a damn fine game. I'll load it up next weekend me thinks.
Hah! Portal isn't 10 years old yet!
Even if you don't believe it's the greatest game of all time, it should be pretty close. No it shouldn't. It doesn't offer anything other games haven't surpassed. OoT is a great package, but in all, anything that you can rate a game on: graphics, story, gameplay, level design, has been surpassed. I realize a lot of you played the game over and over again as a kid. I know because I did the same thing. But Nostalga isn't enough. Quake and Quake II are very important to me, I played them quite a bit as a kid, but they aren't the best FPS's. Nor is Half-Life. To say so is to ignore all the contributions of their successors, and also the games that came before. Can you honestly say you've played them all?

If you view video game critics to be credible, sure. ;)
Almost all of them cater to popular opinion and fail as objective journalists. You'll notice the GB attitude has been to stop trying. It's not one I share.

There is no such thing.
"I agree. There can be no "greatest game of all time" there can be, however, your "most favorite game of all time". If OoT is your most favorite game of all time, good for you. Mine is Earthbound, with A Link to the Past coming in a close second place. Do I think they are the "greatest games of all time"? No, I don't because as he said "There is no such thing."Even if you don't believe it's the greatest game of all time, it should be pretty close. No it shouldn't. @Bellum & PureRoc
Very good points and thank you for sharing them :) Believe me I wasn't trying to pick any fights. It's nice to know that civil, intelligent debates still can exist on the Internet.
Having said that, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree ;) I think as long as there's a list, something has got to be on top of it - but therein lies the problem, when you get to those upper tier things, it comes down to splitting hairs. Who had the best NFL football team of all time? Who was the greatest world leader? Things like thiscan be debated into a stalemate. And as Bellum said, without experiencing them all, how can one say for sure?
And believe it or not, OoT isn't my favorite game of all time, yet I do believe it is (in my experience) the greatest.
Can we at least agree that is a great game? :)
In the afterlife, I'll ask the creator what was the greatest game. He'll probably say "Kangaroo."
