Basicly I borrowed Zelda from my friend for the DS, got 2/3's of the way through then he took it back...And deleted my save. That was one of the most anyoing events in my gaming life. But recently I got a Action Reply and a copy of Zelda myself, that allows you to lode up gamesaves.

********Minor Spoliers*********

Where I was Up to is just after the Goron Temple (I think?). And the two gamesaves I have are either at the start of the Ghost Ship or the 5th time at the start Temple of The Ocean King. Heres the content of the game between the three

Ghost Ship:  First Gamesave

  Zauz's Island (Revisited)
   Mercay Island - Visit 4
Temple of the Ocean King - Visit 4
   Goron Island
  Goron Temple

Harrow Island: Point I Am Up To

  Isle of Frost
  Temple of Ice
  Grappling New Heights
  Mercay Island - Visit 5

Temple of the Ocean King - Visit 5: Second Gamesave

I dont like doing things  twice, but the second gamesave isnt a great place to pick up. So should I just get the low-down of whats happend/ watch someone on youtube get up to that point. Or are the parts I missed really important

You know what they say about sequels...yeah, anyway...

Let's see, what to talk about, well as you can see a la my Giant Bomb status/update thing I have beaten Phantom Hourglass. Which, ironically enough took my longer to beat in one go than Chinatown Wars. Of course you could argue that some amount of that time was taken doing stuff like sailing and going from the Temple of the Ocean King again (and again), but honestly that stuff didn't bother me. Of course I was also playing it through with a walkthrough close at hand, so there is that.

Probably my biggest issue with the game has nothing to do with the game itself, but the rap that it seems to get on the 'internets'. Sure, I'm not a huge Zelda, nor have a played many of the Zelda games 3D or otherwise, but I felt like this was a more than competent portable Zelda game on the DS. Sure, the touch controls got in the way more than I would of liked, but in some ways I was surprised how much easier it made certain things. Course, I'd like to not have to block the screen at all times with my huge hands, but I digress.

You know what they say

Speaking of...hands... :/
yup.
yup.

Ever since I got wind of the news that there will more than likely be a announcement of a remake of Pokemon Gold/Silver for the DS I had the Pokemon fever...or something. Also, I came to several conclusions after learning this promising news:

  1. Pokemon Gold and Silver were awesome, arguably the best handheld Pokemon game ever produced....period.
  2. I'm honestly not sure why I still care about Pokemon.
  3. While Diamond/Pearl brought back a lot of great gameplay from previous games, nothing touches Red/Blue & Gold/Silver.
  4. I should really re-buy the Pokemon Red remake.
And....number 4 is where we find ourselves now. You see, this is what happens when I get on a train of thought. I start going on Ebay and Amazon and looking at used copies. Now unfortunately there really aren't many people with brand new copies of Fire Red/Leaf Green lying around (I mean, it's nearly 5 years old) so I was forced to go the game only route. Thankfully DS cases are awesome and have that great GBA slot wherein you can store your GBA games in a nice hard case instead of dealing with those paper boxes GBA and GBC games came in 'back in the day'. So yeah, I bought Fire Red, in retrospect it probably wasn't the greatest idea, but considering I haven't played that particular Pokemon game in about 10+ years (and it was actually the first game I ever owned...and subsequently lost thereafter) it's not entirely a impulse buy, just mostly.

So yeah, that's my video game related stuff recently, as said as that is. Over the summer I'll have a bit more time to mess around whatnot, it's just that whole school thing gets in the way of games sometimes. Crazy, I know.

So more gaming pickups you say? It's almost like I have disposable income or something (almost)...

So for some reason this past week I've had a strange craving for a new DS
Pretty much like Henry Hatsworth and GTA combined, right?
Pretty much like Henry Hatsworth and GTA combined, right?
game. I know I bought Chrono Trigger just a few months ago, but Chrono Trigger is kind of a commitment both time wise and ...thought wise...so I was kind of wanting something a bit lighter to get me through this upcoming quarter. It came down (not sure how) to Henry Hatsworth and GTA: Chinatown Wars. Just as a quick aside though, GTA:CW has been getting crazy good reviews (of course after GTA IV I kind of am starting to talk that kind of stuff with a grain of salt), but anyway. So after making myself crazy I came to my senses somewhat and and made a compromise... by buying  a used copy of Phantom Hourglass off Ebay. Ok, so not really a compromise per se, but it certainly wasn't $30+ and it's considered one of the better DS games period, so, yeah! I'll be getting that sometime next week so guess we'll see if that was a 'compromise' worth making, huh?

Worth every penny...
Worth every penny...
Now a really weird pick-up that I had no intention on getting was this weekends Steam sale...thing...on the Oddworld series. You would think that it'd be a kind of a strange buy considering the only Oddworld I've played is Strangers Wrath and the first two Oddworld games are about as far away gameplay wise from that as you can ask for. The method to my madness being...both games were selling for a grand total of $3.75. Yeah, I mean even if I absolutely hated it it's still less than I would pay for a bad movie or a bad hamburger, so I said screw it and got em' both. While the game is a bit more frustrating than I would of liked it's actually hasn't aged that badly. I mean this is a modern game (Abe's Odyssee was released in '97), but it's just still surprising to me how modern some of these 'older' games feel in 2009 (10+ years later). Regardless, I'm still trudging through it virtual strategy guide in hand, but I dunno its still a bit hard to convince myself it was a waste of money when not only is the game far from bad, but it was way way cheap. Hear hoping that Abe's Exodus is a little more forgiving in the save points.

What else, what else...hmm, I'm still going back through Warcraft 3 and World of Goo slowly but surely. I'm not sure why this year seems to be, "lets play 2+ year old games year" but that's what's it has been so far. Obviously school is coming up, so gaming will have to take a break for a couple of months, but obviously this summer is going to be a return to gamingness since that'll pretty much be the thing besides working/causing general mischief...

Edit: Oh check out my little Tumblr blog if you just need your random Internet images/videos quota filled. I've actually been keeping it pretty updated, so check back early and often. ;)

We try to make sense of some crazy headlines this week as Little Big Planet gets delayed a week and Microsoft gives away cheap hard drives. Jason continues his adventures in beta land with World At War, as Steven plays with some Legos and nearly murders a DS while playing a legendary Nintendo series. Then, the NPD numbers for September round out the show.

Quick thoughts on games I have played, games I have bought and games left in stasis

Games in stasis i should finish...

Psychonauts (ps2) I  WANT, WANT, WANT to finish this game a little bit like I always wanted to finish Beyond good and evil, But then when i got around to Bg&e I had  moved on to buying then-next-gen (rhyme!) games for my 360, If i ever get a bigger HDD for my 360 i will possibly, probably  consider rebuying that game because I enjoyed what I played of it immensely.. Psychonauts on the otherhand i bought to tide me over while my 360 was off in Prague or wherever they fix euro 360s after theyve red ringed.. The writing and story and design is amazing and I really wish i could finish it, unfortunately i no longer have a ps2 because i borrowed my sisters to play it and that means my save is irrelevant.. part of me just doesnt want to go through what i had already gone through I remember  the controls and the platforming being a little broken... maybe i need a third rrod... NO!

zelda: the phantom hourglass (DS)
There is a couple of DS's floating about my home, none of them belong to me..  I just know theyre there and theres a copy of zelda floating about, I played it initially for two or 3 days  and was hugely charmed by the game... Its zelda, It can wait Zelda has never been about the story.. I really have no excuse

Games i have bought (and not played)

jet set radio future (xbox)
I bought jsrf , people talk about it fondly. I have no intention of playing the game at the minute but you can guarantee when you WANT to play it  , you just wont be able to find it anywhere, I started it up and played a bit of it First thing i noticed is how incredibly beautiful the game is, even now.

Games i have bought (and played)

Mercenaries 2 :world in flames (360)

I think I hate this game, I  enjoy it with my friend, I enjoy the explosions, I enjoy  the open ended nature but seriously pandemic , DUDE, YOUS GAME IZ BROKE!
looping voices- The same two or 3 things are said over and over and over again.... ive put over 6 hours into the game I KNOW FIONA.. if i get stuck i can come back to the PMC base. DYING... I die often not due to incompetent gaming but due to a spawning tank from nowhere  or a rocket or a helicopter, sometimes i want to break things,  The game doesnt even have an animation to signify youve revived your partner, sometimes enemies ignore you and friends shoot at you, sometimes while going after a bounty the bounty will kill himself or his friend will fire a rocket into his face, Its fun when just being played for the explosions witha friend but the campaign is A. too short and B. completely boring, I just wanted to skip anything with story in it and that shouldnt be the case when peter stormare is in it. The game seriosly needed another 6 months of fixing the bugs.

Star Wars the force unleashed (360)

plays awesome.. until you hit bosses or the bit with the star destroyer, At least this game makes you feel awesome for the majority of the game, The few faults with the game can be overlooked by the style and design and wonderful story that fits 100% into the original trilogy universe, The force powers and combo system works wonderfully. The biggest issue being when those powers are made redundant by the bosses..... a few too many quick time events also.

Wipeout HD (Ps3)

Beautifully fast, I love the wipeout design, The online is so fast and furious, the game is like wipeout... the prettiest wipeout on the market.. A little too ahrd for newcomers and people not very good at racing games, even on "novice" the game still asks perfection of you at times making it more frustrating than fun.

Games ive have been playing which i have owned for a while

pixeljunk eden

garden 3, spectra 4 almost full time... fall to the bottom.....run out of time

FUCK THIS GAME!

Games which I have played on a  console that doesnt belong to me

Mario galaxy (Wii)

This game is awesome, not the revelation a lot of reviewers made it out to be when it was released, but definately the best 3D mario i have played, i was never fond of mario64 I think I was one of the few that was frightened of the jump from 2D to 3D. I just didnt like it, I since played a little of it again and its better than i thought then... anyways galaxy is a great game and i got the hang of the wii controls pretty easily, I do find the whole remote/ pointer thing to be a lot more unresponsive than i thought it would be

Lost winds (wii)

It looks and sounds lovely, its like a 2D zelda.... Its fun until you realize you have to go back  15 minutes to your last save and you want to smash the fucker.... good job its not a physical product then.

yes these are a bunch of games ive been playing maybe id tell you about the japanese cat-game that takes a million years to load up on the ps3.....
Its called Mainichi isho if youre curious... theres seven trophies 3 are easy to get the last 4 take idiotic amounts of time and pressing the x button over and over and over x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,xx,,x,x,x,,x,xx,x,x,x,x,,xx,,x,x,x,,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x,,x,x,x,x,x,x occasionally youl get a triangle or a circle or and option to choose....

the things i do for trophies.

Yeah so i suppose this aint very video game related but I did pass all my GCSE's today. I'm not here to boast about them becasue they were just C's but i'm happy. This means I can get into 6th form and so on. My ambition is to make movies and this is a good start to get into film school but enough about all that stuff. It's weird, I don't really know what i'm playing atm. I've got Team Fortress 2 on the brain (got all the achievments), Grid is getting popped in every now and again, getting re-addicted to wow, slugging my way through Crisis Core and Phantom Hourglass also Starcraft 1. To be honest, I aint gonna be reviewing Starcraft partly because i'm totally stuck and also because i'm not totally comfortable with it.... I dunno. It would be hard to stick a score on it because it is a kick ass game but a dated one both from a graphical/gameplay standpoint and reviewing it is not the way to go.

Thats all
