The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Nov 18, 2011

Link descends from his floating continent home to explore the dark and dangerous world below with the help of a magical sword, in this Wii installment of the Legend of Zelda series.

Can I play this without a lot of history with the franchise?

I am going to be a sumbitch and ask the question that I already know the answer to. I have history with the franchise as I nearly completed both Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time. As well as have played, well, just about every Zelda game. Though I have played all these games I have never finished a Zelda game. With that said though, with this type of experience, can I jump in on Skyward Sword and enjoy it? As I would enjoy firing up my Wii for one last hurrah. As well as finally finishing a Zelda game. lol I apologize if there are some typing errors, not in the best position to type right now.

Supposedly it's first chronologically so if you want to dig really deep into the series as a whole, you're fine.

But in reality, the games stand on their own very well. Go forth and play!

None of the Zelda games have linking lore. You wont miss anything story wise.

The Zelda games have never required you to have any knowledge of previous games in the series. Sure, there are little winks and nudges for long term fans pick up on, but you can come into them blind and still totally enjoy it.  So far I am finding the game to be a bit different from previous entries in that the entire world feels like a massive temple. The temples are what the series are known for and sort of the part that people care the most about. After the first couple somewhat boring hours it picks up and really focuses hard on the series strengths.

Tangentially related to the thread: Is anyone else completely over Zelda? I loved it growing up but I just don't care about the franchise anymore.
