There doesn't seem to be a thread about the new Zelda's graphics, but I know that it's very divided with people. I know it doesn't hold up in screenshots (something that can be said for most games, really) but in motion, it seemed like it was pretty gorgeous. It reminded me a lot of Wind Waker, which is never a bad thing, but with some...dreamlike feel to the graphics somehow. It's supposed to be like an impressionist painting, and work on the show floor is that it holds up better when you actually play it.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Nov 18, 2011
Link descends from his floating continent home to explore the dark and dangerous world below with the help of a magical sword, in this Wii installment of the Legend of Zelda series.
Sooo...Graphics?
" Looked pretty terrible. I thought it was a Nintendo 64 game, to be honest. But hey, it's Zelda. "Thats what i thought.
I think it looks nice form what I've seen. As Brad said, it's about 2 parts Twilight Princess and 1 part Wind Waker. Sounds great to me!
I don't like the style. Twilight Princess had a better style. It is technically better I think though.
I've seen absolutely nothing impressive about the new Zelda game. The level design is uninteresting, generic, and entirely crappy-looking from what they've shown. The enemies look boring, as do the minigames that were shown in the trailer. Combat isn't really what Zelda is about, but even still, the full motion sword swinging didn't seem to work properly. Fact is, I just wasn't wowed by any of it the way I was with every singly Zelda game before. Yes, even the DS ones looked more impressive to me than this.
The N64 could easily do the above. The only thing that doesn't look awful is the model. It has like 50 polygons instead of 20. But look at the cliffs, and the road. The textures look like they were drawn in MS Paint and then blurred a bit. Everything is extremely low poly, and the cliffs are just awful. Seriously, major N64 cliff syndrome. This is 2010 and I expect a bit more from a game, now. It's not even good artistically, it just looks like trash.
I'm sure it'll still be an excellent game, but I'm just giving my IMO on the graphics.
The graphics are fantastic, especially the art style. But not exactly the Wii's best looking game. Sonic Colors has better graphics.
Link's running animation is definitely not final, though.
@Pinworm45
I am having a hard time agreeing with you since you went ahead and actually posted a screenshot.
Maybe the main character has the same color shirt, but it's hard to see how it looks like the N64 game.
"I'm sorry, but no, the N64 couldn't handle those graphics. But even so, you can't judge off of that picture. Look how low quality it is..

Really? You are just going to put a face for a true statement? You are judging a games graphics based off a low quality photo." @CL60 said:

You should probably watch the trailer just so you can see how wrong you actually are.
" @CL60 said:You do know that image quality and graphics quality are two very different things, right? Just because you recorded a bad looking video from a cellphone of the city streets, does it mean the world has bad graphics?you can't judge off of that picture. Look how low quality it is.. ":| "
Sorry. I meat only that it is cell shaded instead of the realistic approach.
Almost a hybrid of both really
" @Pinworm45 said:Low quality images now change the polygon count? The cliffs are going to be more than cubes in the full game, and the photo just un3d'd them? Seriously?" @CL60 said:You do know that image quality and graphics quality are two very different things, right? At beast you could say the textures look muddier than the will in the full release, but nothing else is going to change. Furthermore even if they'll be more clean, they still look awful.
but if you'd like, you can put up a really nice high-quality image you find and we can examine that one instead.
Or just agree to disagree, I don't really care. I just think it looks god awful on both a technical and an artistic level.
My only problem with the graphics specifically is Link's face. He looks too much like Miyamoto, or just too Japanese. I want him to look more like the cartoons they had in the Link to the Past manual.
Otherwise I'm OK with the graphics. I'd really enjoy more epic vistas but that's more of a technical issue than style.

I think it looks great, nailing the impressionistic art style. Especially the trees and textures.
The technical and artistic aspects are the best parts of the graphics, from it's very smooth framerate, no screen tearing, no graphical glitches, and of course, great colors and contrast.
I don't like to agree to disagree, because it means we both lost.
I like the style but i will say it looked very simple at E3 and i think the artstyle of the game will really set in when they are closer to finishing the game. I can see the cool water painting look of the game being awesome if they can show it off a little more.
We have this compromise because people were whiny bitches about how Wind Waker looked (it looked awesome) and another group were whiny bitches about how TP looked (it looked alright but clearly with the Wii's graphical limitations realistic isn't the ideal style to go with, for now) and now we have this. It looks okay, and both whiny camps from the previous games kind of hate it. That's how compromises work. My feeling is, go ahead and go full WW style for the handheld games (especially now with the 3DS) and go pseudo real for the Wii and whatever console is next. That compromise gives each camp the look the want instead of a strange mesh that generally leaves people in the range of "eh good enough".
I love it. It's a perfect fusion, artistically. The brown and bloom of Twilight Princess was a real downer, but the overall design didn't bother me; so to at least lean in the direction that Wind Waker went (arguably the best looking game in the franchise) while not compromising the general style of Twilight is excellent.
I think it looks great, but I'm still unsure of how well this style will fit the series. I really wanted to see the game have graphics like Twilight Princess again, but the new direction should be good as long as it fits with the game's theme. The graphics look really sharp and colorful, in fact they looked a lot like Mario Galaxy. Not a bad thing but again, only as long as it fits the atmosphere of the game's story and such.
I like it, takes advantage of the wii's graphical limitations by switching to a more artistic style then the art style Twilight Princess used. TP did show that the Wii is limited in that particular look and that it can't compare to games that look similar on the 360/ps3 so it's good to see Skyward Sword do it differently but not to Wind Waker's extreme.
