I think this is.
What is your opinion?

I was unable to play all of the way through Twilight Princess without taking a break to play something else to get my motivation back. So, that was the worst 3D Zelda game to date in my opinion. However, that's like saying this delicious stew is the worst of the delicious stews that I have eaten to date. Hold on....I just confused myself.
For me it's a toss up between Ocarina and Twilight Princess, one is really old and the other kind of boring.
Cool thread though.
I'd say yeah, it's the worst of the five 3D console games in my opinion. Is it still a great game? I think so, yeah. I just liked all the other 3D games more.
I personally didn't like the backtracking.
Twilight Princess would be my least favorite, because it didn't bring anything especially ineventive to the table.
Ocarina Of Time was groundbreaking and it's contribution to any 3rd person adventure game can be felt through this day.
Majora's Mask's quirky 3 day system and the dark and disturbing tone was something very few games has managed to replicate.
Wind Waker's sense of exploration across the sea and absolutely gorgeous art design that proved all the nay-sayers wrong still holds up.
Twilight Princess' gameplay and story beats really comes off as a retread of OoT more often than not and the wolf part of it really isn't that big of a game changer. The writing and plot is also a step back from the evolution that MM and WW brought.
Granted I'm only a few hours into Skyward Sword, but the addition of the superbly implemented Wii Motion Plus controls have so far shown me a gameplay aspect I have never seen before. The writing and general "feel" also seems to give a new twist to the Zelda mythos
Twilight Princess: I enjoyed it when it came out but I tried playing through again before SS was released and I gave up halfway through; it's just really boring.
If I was to rank them it would be:
I really liked Twilight Princess and get baffled when I see all the hate for it. Do I think it's the strongest Zelda? No, but it is a fine game with some pretty, I apologize for using this word, epic moments.

No... I don't think so. I didn't like Majora's Mask, and Skyward Sword beats that any day.

If I was to rank them it would be:
- Majora's Mask
- Ocarina of Time
- Skyward Sword / Wind Waker
- Twilight Princess
ocarina was really good wtf you talking aboot willis
Well, my friend tell me that it was good and an enjoyable game.
So I guess it not the worst, but I have to play it to see :)
I really, really didn't like Twilight Princess. Especially with the Wiiaggle controls. The more precise, calculated controls in Skyward Sword seem much better.
For me, this is my order, worst to best.
The first 2 games rank in my least favorite Zelda games, regardless of 2D or 3D. OoT is somewhere in the middle (still below LTTP and Link's Awakening). MM is my favorite Zelda outright.
Haven't played Skyward yet.
@mehojevich: I didn't say Ocarina was bad at all, on the contrary it's always been one of my favourite games, hence why it's 2nd.
EDIT: And if we're including the DS games in this I'd place them both after Twilight Princess, with neither one being better or worse. I liked them enough to finish them, but at the same time have no intention of diving back in for a 2nd playthrough.
Majoras mask is EASILY the worst of the 3d zeldas. Anybody who says otherwise, I highly advise them to go back and play that game today. I went back through it a few months ago, under better conditions, and its filled with bugs everywhere. One such bug that kept me from progressing, and had to start the game over again. People say twilight princess didn't bring anything new to the table? Well....Majoras mask felt like a mod for the great ocarina of time. There isn't much of a story. Honest to god, moon is about to fall down during a ritual. You go find 4 deities to stop it. End of game- the 4 deities can't stop the moon entirely, you kill majoras mask thats on skull kids face. You become friends with 'someone'. Done. I left very...very little out. Its more puzzle oriented than action. And the action isn't the greatest. It was a 14 hour romp that felt unsatisfying.
Only problem I had with wind waker was the triforce chart bullshit. Beyond that, its fairly great. Twilight princess is damn near perfect in my eyes. It doesn't look great on stretched 16:9 on the wii, but it sure does play fine. LONNG game too. I can't get under 28 hours. I see twilight princess and ocarina to be on par with each other. Both games have their pros and cons. Sadly, I'm having a hard time buying skyward sword. I was spoiled and saw the pics of it running on dolphin. Oh...my....god... Amazing.
Twilight Princess is certainly the worst, it's a lifeless shell of a Zelda game that doesn't even compare to the other four. It's full of plot holes and logical failures. How does Zelda come back after she disappears, anyway? Oh that's right it never tells us. You would think something like that might be kind of important considering we all thought she was dead. There are about two good characters in the entire game, Midna and Colin, while the rest are utterly forgettable. Link hardly feels like a hero, more like a dimwitted pet for Midna to boss around. He had one cool scene where he was riding off to save Colin. And the obvious fan-service in this game is ridiculous. Link turns into a wolf because wolves are cool. Shirtless Link because Nintendo has figured out that a significant portion of their Zelda fans are girls who are in love with Link. Midna turns into a hot chick because hot chicks are cool. And while we're at it, let's stick Ganondorf in here, and let's give him the Triforce of Power and say it was a "divine prank" because we can't be arsed to think of anything better. But let's not give him any motivation, just like everyone else in this game. The animations and expressions are also terrible, everyone says the graphics are amazing but I can't figure out how this even got an OK to be sold under the Nintendo name. I guess they were just running out of time. It's really obvious that they only made this game because fans were whining so much about Wind Waker's style and Majora's Mask's lack of traditional storyline, and I hope they never decide to try to "please" the fans again.
Ocarina of Time, although simpler in many ways, has much more life than Twilight Princess. The characters are still some of the most iconic of the series and Link as a person develops from a weak little boy to a hero. He earns his Triforce of Courage instead of being born with it, as he does in every other game (beside TP) where he possesses it. Majora's Mask is extremely vivid and emotional, and manages to have a large cast and yet make most of them significant enough that you care what happens to them. It introduced Link's sidekick as a character rather than just a guide (sorry Navi, you are not a character). Wind Waker is a master piece, and so is Skyward Sword. Each of these games builds off it's predecessors without confining itself to the past. Twilight Princess only fails to be Ocarina of Time.
But Twilight Princess isn't a bad game as far as games go. It's not even the worse of the Zelda games. It's just the worse of the 3D Zeldas. The good game in a class of exceptional games.
Okay, here is why:
The controls are wonky. Their not free motion at all. It captures a gesture and has a predesignated effect and animation. Every time I tried to raise my sword up (in order to bring it back down for a downward diagonal cut or so), it automatically does a slash move. Same stuff happens when I try to position the sword horizontally before doing a horizontal slash. Second, the pacing is annoyingly bad. There were points of the game where I was like, shut up, I get it, its legendary, its mystical, move the f on! Third, flying with the bird is no where near as fun as horse back riding or sailing. 4th, Exploration in the lands and other beings is basically gone. Lastly, it looks ugly. If they wanted an example of simple and beautiful, they should of looked at wind waker or super mario galaxy 1 and 2.
So there are my reasons for skyward sword.

I played TP on my gamecube, so please note that when I write this.
I liked one aspect of TP more than anything on other zelda games, and that was the fighting on horseback. That really blew me away!
Ehm, no I'd even go so far as calling it the best. I personally liked Wind Waker's art direction and story more, and Ocarina of Time has the bonus of being a revolutionary classic, but this probably the best game all-around, from dungeon design to story, controls, art style and game flow. Majora's Mask had it's problems (still an amazing game though) and Twilight Princess, while I liked the art style and the music, was just a bit too bland and formulaic. They needed a fresh one like Skyward Sword and they succeeded in creating a solid origin story and implementing motion controls into a game perfectly, finally. It's one hell of a game in my book.

This! Especially after actually giving Ganondorf some pathos and character in Wind Waker.
It was disappointing to see him revert to "BWAHAHAHA I AM THE BIG BAD!"
I'd say Majora's Mask, but I fully admit to having an irrational hatred of that game. Twilight Princess is probably the "correct" answer here.

Worst to Best: Twilight Princess Skyward Sword Ocarina of Time Wind WakerMajora's Mask
thats crazy, ocarina was the best. the dungeons were awesome and you could do them in whatever order, except for first and the last. Majora's mask was pretty good, but I could never get over when you brought over the horse to fight the big iguanas. They obviously didnt plan on people doing that, so I have to say, it was kind of lame in that regard.
I haven't played too much of this game because i can't get past the awkward motion controls.. I do like the enhanced 1:1 sword control however, but i don't like how pretty much everything is motion based - Rolling, swimming, flying, throwing bombs... (rolling bombs) looking around in first person mode and others that i can't think of at the moment. It wouldn't be so annoying if the controls themselves didn't feel so sluggish. Although i will say that doing the whirlwind attack with the nunchuck and wii remote is MUCH better than just shaking the nunchuck side to side in TP, which i could never seem to pull off with any accuracy.
So i'm not too impressed personally.. Call me crazy but i really enjoyed Twilight Princess, and what i've played so far of Skyward is just disappointing.
