Why does the European (English language version) and American versions have different names for several locations?

    American - European:
    Forest/Fire/etc. Realm -  Forest/Fire/etc. Land
    Aboda Village - Outset Village
    Whittleton - Mayscore
    Rabbitland Rescue - Rabbit Haven
    Forest Sanctuary - Woodland Sanctuary
    Forest Temple - Wooded Temple
    Wellspring Station - Icy Spring
    Snow Sanctuary - Snowfall Sanctuary
    Snow Temple - Blizzard Temple

I'm sure there's more, but thats how far i've gotten in the game.
I can see no reason for choosing to have different names in the same language, can anyone else?
