Spirit Tracks Euro cover vs. American cover
This is ridiculous Nintendo. Why the hell would you give us that lame cover on top instead of the nice one on the bottom? Maybe I should import from Europe :P Not that I'm planning on buying the game anyway, but why do american covers always have to be angry/ (see every kirby boxart ever)
Oh man, I started a topic on something like this, the uncharted 2 cover with the new sony PS3 border. Hope people dont rush in here and say, who the fuck cares.
I prefer the top one, looks more epic. I wonder why they do two covers anyway. I know they come up with different ones during the games development but why release two different ones?
" @Binman88 said:Yeah I double checked my box, it's in line with the vibrancy of the EU Sprit Tracks cover above, which I like. There's probably a good reason for differentiating box art in different regions that I'm not aware of, but I honestly don't see the point.*looks it up* Apparantly you're right. Why does Nintendo think that America hates good box art? "" If I recall correctly, we got the preferred Phantom Hourglass cover as well. "
" @luce said:Really? do they purposely screw with boxart to make it less appealing to fans and potential buyers?" americans like their heros front and center in an action/heroic like pose at least thats what marketing departments think "I actually know from experience that the NOA marketing department is full of douchebags "
Are they douchebags or idiots? there's a slight difference
" @AgentJ said:I don't know about their marketing tactics so much, but I know that they are douchebags when you talk to them. They are just jerks, though maybe that's just to product testers" @luce said:Really? do they purposely screw with boxart to make it less appealing to fans and potential buyers? Europe always get the awesome covers, look at Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Timeplitters 2, lol there all 2's.
" @Steve_C said:That's true. I really haven't seen much of this game, but I quite enjoyed Phantom Hourglass and I trust them to make this a product of similar quality. It might be somehting that i'll end up getting next year for a bit cheaper. I managed to get Phantom Hourglass for a good price on launch day, so if it's at a similar price this could be an impulse buy." Oooh, that's really nice. Reminds me of Ghibli. I guess it's the bright colours. Why are you not getting Spirit Tracks anyway? "I liked Phantom Hourglass, but not enough to buy a game that is essentially the same. I've got other games I want far more. "
"What is the point of two covers? Seems like a waste of time and money. "
different audiences.
Americans like action and their heroes to be strong and brave so the cover shows link with is sword out ready to fight.
the European cover is more of an adventurous, showing link on a train at high speed heading to his next adventure.
The Europe one is the same from Japan.
In the US, game boxes show off what the game is about.
In Japan, game boxes show what the experience is like.
So US boxes usually shows off characters and such, while Japanese boxes show scenarios. Europe mostly picks and chooses which ones they want.
"I like the US art better in this case. But even if I didn't I hate how foreign DS cases are so bulky. "
i imported a few DS games from america and i hate those boxs they seem so cheap and tacky
I don't think the American one is bad, its just Europe one seems to better showcase the game. Focusing on the train instead of just link standing there with a sword.
" US box arts always suck compared to Japanese or European box arts. Exhibit A:This is possibly the best European/Japanese box art I've ever seen.
"
Urg... Grey... I know we got a trend of developing games that are monotone happening a lot in the US, but that cover is just terrible.
The European version is vibrant and cheerful. Fitting of the game title 'Spirit Tracks' as well.
Well, as long as Nintendo doesn't decide to change the color palettes in-game to grey/brown for the US version... Or make Link hopped up on steroids and enjoy curb stomping his opposition... I think I'm okay with that.
"The one on top looks like Link wants it up the ass from the armored dude. "
Those arn't normal thoughts.
" @Steve_C said:Helloooo, it's a Zelda game for crying out loud :P" Oooh, that's really nice. Reminds me of Ghibli. I guess it's the bright colours. Why are you not getting Spirit Tracks anyway? " @AgentJ said:There are three types of Zelda games. Normal 2D top down like LTTP, 3D like Ocarina of Time, and 2.5D like the DS games. The first option hasn't changed since its inception, the second one changes enough each time that its still fun, and the jury is still out on the DS games but they are nearly identical (albeit with less "I'm on a boat")" @Steve_C said:Helloooo, it's a Zelda game for crying out loud :P "" Oooh, that's really nice. " i like the american one, its not that bad. The european one looks more childish to me. "This^
" @snipeshow_17 said:So making some original art for the cover is childish? Seriously, you think it's less childish to take the same character in the same style, put him in front of a gray background and give him a frown, and it's less childish? *headache ensues*" i like the american one, its not that bad. The european one looks more childish to me. "This^ "
" Compare American with Eu/Jap covers. Count the number of times the reason for changing the cover is "We have to have a dude holding a weapon on there!". You'll be surprised.Yeah I agree that the American ones are more "actiony." I guess the marketing people think it appeals to us but hell that FF7 American cover is so badass. I'm not even a ff7 fanboy it just looks very symbolic of Cloud taking on something much bigger than him.
"
" @AgentJ: It reminds me of The Little Engine That Could. It just looks babyish "This is what is wrong with the video game community these days. No wonder no one will give games on the wii the time of day. I suppose it'd be even better if Link was bald and wielding a submachine gun.
