Lord of the Rings: War in the North is releasing November 1st. I'm a big fan of all things Tolkien and I think the game looks pretty promising but unfortunately that same week the juggernaut that is Uncharted 3 is also being released. And a week later Skyrim. My question to you is, does this game have any shot? Or is it gonna pull an Alan Wake.

EDIT: I should have had a "so-so" sales option. Ah well.

I don't think Uncharted 3 is a sales juggernaut, it sells good but it's far from a juggernaut.

On topic i have never heard of this game so i don't think it will sell all that great.

It looks like a pretty average game, so I am not expecting anything from it both fun wise or sale wise.

It doesn't look all that great so I don't expect it to sell very well. Wish they would make more games like The Two Towers and Return of the King, because those were actually pretty good.

It doesn't do CoD numbers but the point I was making is that it's a big seller. I'm betting the majority of PS3 owners are gonna be picking it up.

Last time I saw a preview of that game the main selling point they were pushing was "FUCK look at how those limbs get dismembered". So yeah I think it'll do pretty bad critically and sales until it gets down to like bargain bin pricing.

You would lose that bet, by a lot.

I agree that the LOTR game shouldn't be a November game though. Maybe the brand is still big enough amongst the casual/gift audience, but I doubt it.

I think it'll find it difficult when up against the string of titles being released around the same time.

I think I'll pick it up eventually, but not when it first releases

Seriously? I guess I've misjudged how popular that game is.

It's too bad that it's going to get buried because it's Snowblind finally making another hack'n slash. So history says this ought to be pretty good.

It's going to be buried by the bigger releases.. being sandwiched beteween Torchlight and Diablo 3 won't help much either.

Lord of the Rings Conquest sold something like 4 copies worldwide. And that was like the only game released in that January. So... yeah. I guess people aren't that much into a LOTR game if there is no movie tied to it.

I absolutely loved the two LOTR beat em ups on xbox and ps2. Hell, I probably played through return of the king 6 or 7 times. I also have a replica of Aragorn's ring, so I may be a bit biased. Still, the trailers are just screaming red box rental.

@TaliciaDragonsong: Also, I just played it for the first time today and the combat is pretty fun (as stated by reviewers). I'm playing with a friend and I can see how the combat would get repetitious after awhile, regardless I still find it fun and will enjoy it. (doesn't help you much)

Graphics are good, facial animations aren't too great (maybe I'm just spoiled).

It is pretty fun chopping heads and such off and there is a skill tree (although it isn't anything highly in-depth).

Can't choose gender/race. There is essentially a mage class, a warrior class and a ranger class. No two players can play as the same class (at least on split-screen). There are different weapons (and even weapon "modifiers"). Typical Rpg fair I think. Sap health, +armor etc. Different types of armor and weapons. There are also special "skills" and you can calling a giant eagle to swipe orcs away! :D

The story is interesting as well so far (only around an hour in)

    Hope this helps some more.

I need people to play with online -_-

Whether or not a person will enjoy this game comes down to whether or not they like dungeon crawling hack and slash games. It's a fun game, but it is not for everyone.

    @Still_I_Cry: Thanks!

I'm still looking to pick it up, but not at full price!
I love the genre anyway, and don't mind a few shortcomings!
