For those of you who are playing the game and have seen the comic booky (?) cutscenes, what do you think about the art style? I gotta say I was really surprised. To me they're a little too cartoonish. There is a dissonance between the tone of the game and these cutscenes. Don't you think the ones in the first game suited the overall darkess of the subject better?

They aren't cartoon style, they are done in faux-middle ages artwork style.

The ones in the first game were just static artwork with voiceovers, in the new comic style they use animations to make characters do things in them.
Guess it's a matter of preference, because I liked them. The art style is very defined with smooth colors and black lines around everything.

Yes, the still images in the first game fit a bit better with the tone, but these new cutscenes doesn't bother me.

My point is though, Dante's Inferno had a pretty dark tone and it also used similarly-styled animated cutscenes. Also the cutscenes don't seem cartoonish at all to me.

@spazmaster666: they were similar, but still they didn't look out of place. I guess it's just that I played witcher 1 so many times I got used to the art style there.

They're awesome. They remind me of the first "KILL BILL" when one of the movie's chapters turns to animation. It is a really great artistic choice and shows appreciation to and complements a more abstracted 2-D medium in a game that pays immaculate attention to realism and detail. A fitting breath of fresh air in a game filled with realism standards. They are a fantastic contra-standard to the rest of the work.

Also, no. I did not like the first game's better. Panning over a single illustration as Geralt talks is not better. It was not bad, but i like this better.

Maybe they grow on you, but I have to agree with Oracle here, they do seem a bit out of place. I preferred the concept art/painting style of Witcher 1.
