With plenty of sign usage and tons of rolling it isn't really that difficult in my experience. It is poorly balanced though, considering the prologue and chapter 1 are the hardest parts of the whole game since your skills aren't ready for fighting crowds of enemies. Once you reach chapter 2 you'll be powerful enough to kill upwards of six enemies at once with certain ease. You'll still need to roll and block a fair bit, but it's definitely easier and wholly satisfying.
