The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released May 17, 2011
The sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed role-playing game, The Witcher. Players again take control of Geralt of Rivia in this story-focused adventure.
President Obama receives The Witcher 2 CE from Polish politician.
I agree with Ahmad - pretty awesome that they would consider the game good enough to give it to a president, pretty gosh-darn disrespectful that they think the President has the time to play an RPG or that it is appropriate to give it to a head of state.
Then again, it's about as disrespectful as Obama's "gift" of a box set of US-film DVDs to Gordon Brown. Brown gave Obama an extremely valuable gift made out of the wood of one of the most respected British 19th Century Anti-Slavery Ships, the HMS Gannet. Obama gave him DVDs he can't even watch in the UK due to the fact that he didn't have a region 1 DVD player.
Now, I like Obama, quite a lot. He's doing a fair (not very good, but not a bad) job as President. But that gift sucked. You don't give a Visiting head of state a box of DVDs, especially not in front of news cameras. Well now he's been given a computer game that he will never play. Maybe his kids will like it - they're about the right age to start playing video games, right?
@OracleXIII said:he also got an iPad loaded with Polish movies and some translated novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher,Well it's a bit on the fun side, however, is it really something you'd give a president?Yes, yes it is. Although I'm not from Poland, I understand that The Witcher is quite important there, so... I definitely approve of this. Would it be any different if he would be given a book? No, but somehow media will still want to tear it apart because it's a video game.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all presidents leave the things they get as gifts in the White House after their term is over?
I don't see how this is disrespectful, if you seriously think that, then you're basically saying that games are crap compared to other forms of media and so on. I think it's the same as the irish who always present Guiness and brits who might give a Beatles record or something. You give a unique and interesting export of your country.
You'd think Obama'd already have an iPad... Sounds like they had no clue what to give him. Shouldn't they had given him a sausage or something?
It might be a more app gift than many think since Obama is an avid collector of Conan comics and has collected them since he was a kid (and apparently still does). He seems to like low fantasy. According to one website, he is even a fan of Portal, so perhaps he does have a computer that could run it...
