Saving The Witcher 2 (X360)

Just wanted to throw this out there, because I don't really know what the problem is. Just bought the console version and played through all the flashbacks in the beginning, but then I died trying to escape the prison and the game hasn't been saving at all. I have to start over again! Glorious! Is there anything I should do manually to get the game to autosave? Doesn't feel like I should, right? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this so it won't happen when I do it over again...

Has anyone had this problem? Is there any difference if I choose to save locally or in the cloud?

It has 3 autosaves, but they seem to get used a really random points and sometimes not at all, I can't see a system to it like going through doors in Fallout/Skyrim. I have just manual saved on my playthrough and I suggest you do to otherwise you will lose tons of gameplay.

@leebmx: As far as I can remember (It's not on right now, the pain is too great) there isn't a save button in the menu? Or am I incorrect?

There are certain moments during which the game won't let you save, like during combat or when you're talking to someone. Otherwise the save option should be available in the start menu.

@FancySoapsMan: I'll check it out when I start it up, thanks!

It won't always let you save, on occasion when you are in a fight or something the option won't be there. However, that is rare and it should be obvious why it won't let you.

Wait, so you completed all the flashback scenes and when you died trying to escape the prison you needed to do all of the flashback scenes over again? The game will autosave for you after each mission and frequently throughout the prologue, or at least it should. It will keep track of three (3) autosave slots in the 'Load' option. The game is hard so saving often manually is a good thing.
