Witcher noob help

Just getting into the Witcher world with the first game on PC. In terms of character builds, is it important to put points in all four attributes (ST/DEX/END/INT) or should I just concentrate on maybe two attributes while building up my attendant sword and magic skills? This is pretty much RPG 101, but I don't want to gimp my character...right now very early on I'm putting points into ST and INT to build a powerful magic type dude. Any advice would be welcome.

The game is kind of confusing at first. The only things you really need to worry about upgrading are your sword proficiencies and the fire spell. I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure that ST and DEX just govern the uses of your two different swords.
