There has been various patches for The Witcher since it was released. Most of these patches have fixed the larger issues the game had, the Enhanced Edition fixes and adds even more to the stability and performance of the game.
You shouldn't have many issues of crashing or freezing during loading screens like some had when the game was originally released.
