    It's a Wonderful World Afterall

"The World Ends With You" know as "It's a Wonderful World" in Japan, is a unique gaming experience to say the least. This RPG which utilizes both the stylus and microphone functions for battle, displays a new and innovative way to use the DS's many features beyond simple mini-games or puzzle games.

Playing as Neku, an angsty teen who has lost his memory, you are immediately flung into battle against relentless creatures known as "Noise". Without giving anything away, the plot is very engrossing and draws you in as it runs through many twists and turns. To make things better, upon beating the game, a new menu option is unlocked allowing the player to go back and replay any chapter they wish with some added side objectives. Completing these objectives unlocks extra tidbits of story that help to flush out the plot as a whole.

The gameplay however, is the major draw here. Utilizing both screens, the player control two characters separately (Neku on the lower screen and his partner above). The lower battle is executed through the use of the stylus in different motions as well as the microphone for certain attacks. The upper is controlled through the D-pad by completing patterns in an almost DDR-like fashion. While there is definitely a learning curve, the game is pretty good about helping the player understand it and also provides a number of difficulty options and features, including the option to have the computer take control of the top character in hectic situations. Once you get the battle system down however, combat feels fluid and exciting. On the flip side, the game also allots the player a number of hard options as well, such as chaining battles together and temporarily lowering your character's level. Utilizing these features increases the drop rate and type of rewards as an incentive.

TWEWY's music brings crisp and addictive sound from a number of genres and you’ll likely find yourself replaying the music in your head long after you have put the game down (for better or worse). It also includes soundbytes for almost all the characters in the game, which helps to display their unique personalities. While most characters only have a few words or phrases that are repeated a number of times, it is a welcomed addition that certainly brings the characters to life.

Overall "The World Ends With You" is a can't miss game for DS players. It is a refreshing change from the glut of minigames and old ports that have filled the system and will keep you entertained for many hours. While it does take a little getting used to, the player is reward with an unforgettable experience that sets the bar very high for future titles.

WEWY is a fresh, gripping, and fun RPG for the DS 0

Imagine you've just woken up in the middle of the street of a busy city. You can't remember anything at all, and nobody can see or feel you. It's as if you don't exist. Then, out of nowhere, a girl forcefully asks you to 'form a pact' with her so you won't get 'erased' by the 'noise.' Not knowing what the heck is going on, you just kind of go along with it, because you learn that you are dead… but you have been given the opportunity to earn a second chance at life. That's the premise of The World...
