I have a confession, guys....I didn't like Patapon. Skinning FF over it doesn't sell me the concept of rhythm-timed battles.

Though good on them for trying new stuff with FF IP. It hasn't always worked for everyone, but I like experimenting with the formula.

What they should really do is make an opera/musical styled JRPG where you have to sing the dialogue before and after battles and based on your performance you receive buffs or debuffs. I know it is probably an awful idea for the typical gaming crowd but it could be a way to convince your girlfriend to participate in your 60 hour role-playing adventure. Not that anyone could write that amount of lyrics. A high-speed 12 hour adventure with no side quests and fluff, boss-battles only, and singing for dialogue should do the trick. Am I the only person that wants this game? I'll shut up now.

Finally Bards play a greater role in a Final Fantasy game.

Wow you lot are so inconsistant - you strive for innovation in the gaming industry and then as soon as someone does eomthing different with a franchise you flame because it isn't "a real final fantasy game" - God seriously you should all be ashamed of yourselves, it is consumers like you that stop new IP's appearing and dig franchises to the groudn with repetition. If you want to play an older Final Fantasy game then play one of them then, they still exist and you can't honestly expect them to release the same game every time but with different characters. It's all fine to make a joke about what they do (I am not condemning people who do that) but condemning the creators or Square for not making a game in the bias that you have put in your own mind is insulting to everyone inclusing yourself. You don't own the series, you don't have to buy any of these games and there is no reason why you can't play an older game if that's the kind of game you want to play - just stop halting evolution in games.

you're being sarcastic, right? it's a goddamn rhythm game we're talking about. there is not going to be anything remotely original or innovative about it.

Change the title to "Threat-Rhythm" which is what I thought it was, and I'm sold.

Theatrhythm makes no damn sense. Given they are a Japanese company, but I imagine they have someone on staff who speaks English and could tell them that Theatrhythm is unpronounceable and generally awful.

Again;Threat Rhythm would have saved this.

I wanna kick everyone who makes decisions at Square Enix in the balls. What the fuck is this and who the fuck wants this? And where the flying fuck is Versus?

Leave it to Squeenix to kill the use of the portmanteau forever.

still not worse than dissidia duodecim 012

That was at least pronounceable. This, I can't even figure out the cadence of the syllables to make it sound like a real word. Totally stupid.

Stop it, "Square".. Just stop it.

#70 Posted by Beforet (2633 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Sure, why not. Music has been one of the consistently good things about this series.

This reminds me of a crappy Facebook game where one of the classes you could choose was called the "Alchemystic". That sound you just heard was the language center of my brain having an aneurysm.

@The_Moorasaurus

Who's got two thumbs, is a pirate, and has seemingly has no relevance to the rest of the picture?

Japanese-pirate-man, that's who.

Clearly he is an advertisement for their next game, an open-world, sea-exploration game designed to teach Japanese children how to write.

Fuck Square in its slanted asshole.

I can see it now the curtains open, chibi almost puppet like versions of final fantasy characters appear and then they fight in a turn based paper mario style.

#76 Edited by zungerman090 (311 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

So, it is like Dissidia with rhythm based fighting? I don't really mind to be honest. At least they are trying something new.  I can get behind that. Dissidia was all sorts of fun (for me at least). Also, chibi. Can't beat that.

Yes, because this is what the FF fans have been screaming for! Not a good, old fashioned JRPG, that finds it roots, and actually makes us give a crap again. Seriously, after FF14, this is the shit they start peddling? It isn't even funny anymore how little Square seem to understand us. FF13 was a total piece of ass, and with this, well I think Square just put the final fucking nail in the coffin of this franchise...people need to be fired, or taken out back and ol' yeller'd, for the good of everyone.

Sad thing is that this will probably be out before Versus.

#80 Posted by BlueFroman (47 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Looks like the "chibi" style they are making these are inspired in part by Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded's avatar mode.

I never jumped on the recent FF bandwagon hate, so whatever. Dissidia was awesome I have to admit, so more FF spinoffs into other genres isn't necessarily a bad thing. I love FF (okay, mostly, sorry XII) and I like rhythm games...so until I see something that makes me dubious, I remain hopefully optimistic.

Also, that behemoth is ADORABLE.

EDIT: As an aside, you have to realize the market that this is being made for. This WILL do well here in Japan, music games still do well and FF is still quite popular here. Cute rhythm games with FF characters? Probably will sell very well. It may or may not even be localized to other regions.

#82 Posted by Xeridae (41 posts) - 1 year, 10 months ago

Unfortunately it seems that the j-pop kids love this kind of shit though, so the bloated corpse of Square - Enix continues to writhe in  rejected androgynous anime and the crushed hopes and dreams of a man who really wanted to be a movie director. I wish that Square - Enix would just shut down at this point. Squaresoft was their golden age. Everything since then has been so fucking bad that the title "Final Fantasy" makes me cringe.
