As the title says, Thief is 75% off. I have heard a lot of things about Thief and the series but never played any of them. Is it worth playing for someone who have never played a Thief-game before?
Also, what part of the series is your favorite?
Thief
The Thief franchise consists of a series of first-person "sneaker" games, where you play as a master thief named Garrett, in a large sprawling steampunk-medieval metropolis simply known as "the City."
Thief is currently 75% off on Steam, should I buy it?
yes. It's one of the best stealth action games made. This guy has wrapped the topic up. No argument.
Steal it.
I kid of course. I played it back in what felt like the 90's, but I think it was early 2000's, and it never really clicked with me. However a friend of mine ended up with the trillogy, I think, and his taste in games was pretty good. Why not watch You Tube videos of it, see how it plays.
No, but maybe it's just because I don't have a real reason to get into it, like something like Deus Ex. If there was a promising looking sequel in the coming future, then I might be able to get into it. I already bought it sometime in the past, and I've installed it only twice, not being able to fully get into it. So, my opinion may just be pointless and I probably didn't have to write this... I bought it, so you should too (since it'll most likely be worth it).

i've only played Thief 3, and i can confidently say that it was fucking amazing.
I mean, to be playing an 8 year old stealth game and feel like i'm rocking a 2008 title? that was incredible. probably one of my all time favorite spooky-stealth games ever!
It was by no means the best of the franchise, but probably more palatable than Thief 2: The Metal Age, which although looks incredibly dated now, was by far the most engrossing of the three in my experience.
Edit: Never really answered your question: yes it's a good game and you should get it, but be mindful of when it was released, and how far games have come since then.
What everyone said. Thief 2 was my favourite but Thief 3 is still good fun. Not to mention that it has one fantastic level (The Cradle).
The first Thief was an awesome game, the atmosphere, oh man. And you actually try to get in and steal stuff, it was amazing. Lets you know what a piece of crap the Oblivion thief missions were. Only played a demo of THI3F but it ran terribly on my PC at the time. I might get this, it reviewed well and there is not game like it out there. I am hoping that we see something of THI4F at this E3.
Thanks for all of the replies!Man, I dunno. Thief 1 is one of my favorite games of all time, but the graphics were bad when it was released, which was a long time ago. The level design is better in the first two though, and the plots very much build on one another. If you can find a cheap copy of the first one and are willing to try to get it working, I'd say go for it. Otherwise just jump to 3.
@august: Oh. Do you think it would work if I bought the one on sale now and then played the earlier ones if I liked this one? Or are they too much improved to be played in such an order that it would just make playing the first two worse?
While Thief 3 might not be as good as Thief 1 or 2, it is still worth getting, especially for £2.50. Along with Final Fantasy games, Metal Gear Solid games and Hitman: Blood Money, it's one of the few games I have on multiple platforms. It's worth it!!

@liquidmatt said:I did! It's why I can argue so heartily for it. Yes, you should buy it. As some people already stated; it's one of the best stealth action games ever made. The atmosphere is pretty much unmatched in the genre. It has some flaws, mostly technical, but overall it's an amazing experience. Granted, both the first and the second game in the series are better, but Deadly Shadows is probably the easier one to get into at this point, so it's a great purchase. I actually bought it too, and now I have 3 versions of the game, for some reason. Fancy that.

Sometimes I enjoy watching games more than playing them, a good LP commentator can make it a good experience.
