The player character is seen at a distance from a number of different possible perspective angles. There is generally a movable camera but it can also be in a fixed position.
Third person is related to the storytelling strategy of the same name, referring to the viewing of a story from the outside, as a "third person," the other two being the actual characters in the game. This just means that even though you control the main character, you are not them, but instead you are separate, watching from the outside. In video games, this means that your point of view is looking at the character you're playing as. In third person games, the game is more prone to let you play as more characters other than the main character, as you are not particularly them. This style of video games are usually just made for gameplay reasons, to make the game more fun, but the majority of games made in the third person are more story- heavy, and tend to show views of more characters, as opposed to first person, which tend to delve into the psyche of your own personal main character.Third-Person Perspective games
