    Overview

Thyra was introduced in the first Gauntlet game and is one of the four core characters of the series along with Thor the Warrior, Merlin the Wizard, and Questor the Elf. She is a fierce female warrior, sporting what appears to be chain mail (bikini armor), a shield, and throwing daggers. She has blond hair and fair skin, hinting at a possible Nordic-design. Even her name recalls the region of Europe, since Thyra (also known as Thorvi or Thyre) was the first wife of the first King of Denmark, King Gorm the Old.

She is generally regarded as the most balanced character in the early games, with medium armor but weak attack/magic. Her statistics from the NES version of the game were:

    Starting Power900
    Armor Strength5
    Shot Strength2
    Magic Strength2
    Fighting Ability3
    Player Speed3

    Other Valkyries

Thrya was the Valkyrie in the versions of Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, Gauntlet: The Third Encounter, Gauntlet III: The Final Quest, and Gauntlet IV.

Starting with Gauntlet: Legends, the Valkyries were different characters. The Valkyrie in Legends and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy was named Freyja. The Valkyrie in Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows was named Ragneithur. In the Gauntlet novel Paths of Evil, the Valkyrie was based on the one from Legends/Legacy, but named Layla.
