So, is that eye functional?

Is Tien really human? If so, is that third eye the real deal or what?

He was given a third eye to make him seem like less of a useless douchebag, sadly it didn't work.

His third eye gives him a cunning advantage in staring contests.  I call that functional.

The third eye is so when he duels Mad Eye Moody, he is not at a disadvantage.

I'm glad you all gave Vinny such useful info...ugh...

As far as I know, his eye doesn't seem to play any sort of role in the anime, however I have definitely seen it move before, so it's not just painted on or anything; it's a real eye. Like most of the Dragon Ball characters Tien is based on a character from Journey to the West, who also had three eyes. The third eye is from "becoming enlightened" as wikipedia puts it. Wikipedia als says its possible Tien is a decendant from an anchient alien race, now I'm really confused.

Maybe there was an episode where something was said about his eye or he did something crazy with it, but I don't remember it. It's like the other characters don't even notice it or something... 0_o

Meh, it was just something to make him different from the rest and not just being bald, because krillin already was.

It was either Tien or Yamcha who did some power to look way into the distance during the Buu saga so if it was Tien, I presume that's what the eye is for.

Yeah, the eye works. In his first appearance, he used it to see through Goku's afterimage trick. I believe the exact quote is, "you can't fool my three eyes".

So, he's got way better vision and can see through illusions as a result. Of course, that doesn't really come into play that often, so after Dragon Ball it just became a decoration.

Oh cool, that's nice to know. Super-vision FTW :D I may have to find a clip of this somewhere...

glad you posted that I would've spent forever trying to remember WHEN he used it, but I can remember him using it at some point.

Umm...Vinny...you have Goku as your icon.  Do you not know these kinds of things?

Tsk tsk...

Yes it works...at least it works to make a crazy triangle-shaped energy beam that slices Majin Buu in half.

#13 Posted by Daniel_Newton (1159 posts) - 4 years, 7 months ago

What?... He does the Tri-beam with his hands...

Although I suppose that funky zoom-in thing he does while doing the attack may have something to do with his third eye.

I'm detecting a sense of epic potential in this thread.

Ah, these were the days. Hell, I wasn't even part of these aforementioned days, but after checking out some of Vinny's early threads I really wish I was.
