The Official Playstation Magazine UK is reporting that an announcement for a new TimeSplitters game is on the horizon.

The quote itself is as follows “Gun-wielding monkeys are making a comeback! A fourth TimeSplitters title is to be announced soon.”

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the old TS games... TimeSplitters 2 specifically. So I'm super excited about the potential of a fourth game coming out!

Any other TS fans out there? And what are your opinions on the potential announcement? Reckon Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) will be the ones developing?

Also, what would you want out of a new TS game? Perks? Iron sights? Or would you prefer they kept the old formula?

I'm guessing I'm the only fan of TimeSplitters here on Giant Bomb then.

The prospect is certainly an interesting one but I am 100% sure I don't want to play an old style Timesplitters game. Shit needs to be updated.

@Creamypies: Hell no! I also am a massive Timesplitters fan, I just didn't see your thread! But friend, if your kidding me about this news thats not cool! :P I was well bummed out when timesplitters 4 got "cancelled" as such and I hope its back!

TimeSplitters was one of my favorite PS2 titles! Back in the collage days we had a PS2 lan setup at my house and TS2 was the game of choice. Looking forward to a new TimeSplitters, hopefully on the xbox too.

Who would make it?

#7 Posted by AjayRaz (12428 posts) -

i haven't played much TS, but i appreciate it since it plays pretty much like a modern (?) goldeneye/perfect dark. with that said, since i didn't get to play it much during it's release, i'm pretty excited if there's going to be a forth one. Perfect Dark on XBLA's multiplayer is dead and boring, so i'd love to see them do some stuff with the old formula.

#8 Posted by OtakuGamer (1237 posts) -

Nope, I am too. I would like TS to not be a Call of Duty with monkeys. Please do not make it like a Call of Duty with monkeys. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT if they did not make it like a Call of Duty with monkeys.

I really want them to stick to the old forumula, this is one of the main reasons that i still like TS 6 years on.

Most likely Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical).

Yes!  I was beginning to think that everything I was anticipating was doomed.

#12 Posted by benjaebe (2783 posts) -

This would be fucking wonderful. TimeSplitters 2 was easily one of my favorite PS2 games that I poured hundreds of hours into trying to unlock everything. If they keep up the same design spirit, then I'd be pumped for a new one. It would be rather refreshing, compared to all the other FPS games on the market.

#13 Posted by Creamypies (4065 posts) -

Phew, I was worried there for a second. Thought nobody cared, but as it turns out... none of you saw my thread, so I'll let you off.

But yeah, I really hope this rumour comes to fruition... because I have been itching for a new TimeSplitters game for years now.

Console shooters really need Timesplitters 4.

The prospect of enjoying a TimeSplitters 4 ended when Haze came into existence.

Timesplitters one wasn't much. But TS2 and three. Those are two of the most memorable games I have ever played. That was the go to multiplayer, and it has a great cast of characters for singleplayer. I have all three, and I wish the third was backwords compatible on 360, 'cause I and my brother got that on Xbox when it came out. We have TS2 on gamecube, so that's not an issue. I wonder how many hours I have on those games, that was one of the first games I've ever sat up through the night and played, now I can sadly do that whenever I feel like it.

It would seem like a dream come true, Timesplitters with the CryEngine 3, but if they put as many glitches in Timesplitters as there were in Crysis 2 on console, it'll be disappointing. I know I and my brother'll get this game first day. If it comes, I'm so excited! Oh, and I prefer the old way of doing it, but with some tweaks. Also, I bet they could make a good Haze 2, I think the game was flawed in many aspects, but it had potential. People have little faith.

@EuanDewar: What? Timesplitters ain't dated.
#18 Posted by EuanDewar (4924 posts) -

@chrismafuchris: It plays pretty much identical to Perfect Dark, and I PERSONALLY consider that style of shooting outdated.

@EuanDewar: The first one's perhaps, but I see no problem with how the later two play. What exactly do you mean when you say that it needs to be modernized? Are you saying that it needs to be slowed down, you need to aim down the sights and that it needs perks?
#20 Posted by EuanDewar (4924 posts) -

@chrismafuchris: It needs a little more depth, I don't know how they could add that. Perks might be fun, if they keep them relevant to the wacky style of the game, hell, I ain't no games designer. Alls I knows is that I went back and played 2 a month or two ago and was not enjoying it a whole lot. I appear to be in the minority on that so, meh.

More map making!

I would love a new Timesplitters. Timesplitters 2 was some of most fun I've had with split-screen.

Hell no!
I love the series so much!
I hope it gets announced soon, but I also don't, since I made a bet it wouldn't be announced this generation and we had high stakes...damn!
#25 Posted by CandleJakk (766 posts) -

Timesplitters 2 is possibly my favourite FPS ever. I have been everyone for ages about TimeSplitters 4. Hopefully Crytek will have treated it well.

#26 Posted by Hizang (8532 posts) -

I played the shit outta 2 and 3, but I would inagne that they would have to change the gameplay style to make it modern, but that would ruin it.

#27 Posted by Grilledcheez (3947 posts) -

I would definitely be open to playing some more Timesplitters...those games were fun as hell. It needs to have a map editor if it comes out!

#28 Posted by WizardShazam (135 posts) -

TimeSplitters 2 is probably my favorite FPS ever so I am always interested in more TS news. Outside of announcing that TS4 will forgo the style of the old games in favor of a more realistic shooter, I don't see how any announcement could be bad.

#29 Posted by ChickenPants (934 posts) -

Oh man, oh man, oh man. My favourite FPS!

Thought I'd never see it again after Free Radical went under. So happy!

#30 Posted by Origina1Penguin (3501 posts) -

@Creamypies: How could you forget about map making!? It was my favorite part of those games.

#31 Posted by TheFreeMan (2712 posts) -

I loved Timesplitters (especially Future Perfect), and the prospect of a FPS with a sense of humour that doesn't involve dicktits/lazy parody has me excited.

Some TS4 concept art that was released some time ago:

Also, monkey curling was way better.

yeah i would love a new timesplitters i played the crap out of them back in the day.
#34 Posted by Yanngc33 (4496 posts) -

Gamesradar which is owned by future, who also owns PTOM UK had a whole article about what could make Timesplitters 4 great. I don't know if someone tipped them off or if they're making this up but they sure seem to believe that 4 is definitely on the horizon

Best damn news I've heard all day. Loved Timesplitters 2 & 3, and hope this happens.

if they can make it to the same degree of quality as TS2, then hell yes. time splitters 2 was my jam back in the day.

#38 Posted by Random88 (284 posts) -

Loved playing Timesplitters 2 and Loved Future Perfect's hilarious story mode.  A new Timesplitters could be fun but I'm not into First person shooters as I used to be.  If a new one is made it would have to retain all the craziness and comedy the other ones had.

HOLY SHIT YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
It needs to retain the old formula.

Oh hell yeah. Would love a new TimeSplitters. The story in Future Perfect so so crazy and awesome.

It should keep the old formula. Not every game has adapt to the Call of Duty style.

Different Team.
#45 Posted by Hizang (8532 posts) -

I'm not sure a Timesplitters game would play today, FPS have advanced so much since then. If it was made they would probably have to update it., but then it stops being Timesplitters and becomes a FPS with monkeys in it.

#46 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6789 posts) -

I only rented the second game, but enjoyed the hell out of what I played - definitely interested in a new one.

I thought Haze was Free Radical production and then they became this new studio or did something happen to make them splinter off?

It was a Free Radical game, but I remember reading that the people working on Haze, and the people working on TS4 were not the same. I think Crytek bought the "good team".

Updated how? Allowing you to jump? Regenerative health? A free-roam structure? Levelling up in MP?

If thats what constitutes an update, then I say hell no. The way the games are stylized makes them still look good even today, just give sharper textures and an even higher framerate and thats all the updating you could need. New characters, levels, weapons, and such is a must obviously.
