The Official Playstation Magazine UK is reporting that an announcement for a new TimeSplitters game is on the horizon.

The quote itself is as follows “Gun-wielding monkeys are making a comeback! A fourth TimeSplitters title is to be announced soon.”

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the old TS games... TimeSplitters 2 specifically. So I'm super excited about the potential of a fourth game coming out!

Any other TS fans out there? And what are your opinions on the potential announcement? Reckon Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical) will be the ones developing?

Also, what would you want out of a new TS game? Perks? Iron sights? Or would you prefer they kept the old formula?

The prospect is certainly an interesting one but I am 100% sure I don't want to play an old style Timesplitters game. Shit needs to be updated.

TimeSplitters was one of my favorite PS2 titles! Back in the collage days we had a PS2 lan setup at my house and TS2 was the game of choice. Looking forward to a new TimeSplitters, hopefully on the xbox too.

i haven't played much TS, but i appreciate it since it plays pretty much like a modern (?) goldeneye/perfect dark. with that said, since i didn't get to play it much during it's release, i'm pretty excited if there's going to be a forth one. Perfect Dark on XBLA's multiplayer is dead and boring, so i'd love to see them do some stuff with the old formula.

This would be fucking wonderful. TimeSplitters 2 was easily one of my favorite PS2 games that I poured hundreds of hours into trying to unlock everything. If they keep up the same design spirit, then I'd be pumped for a new one. It would be rather refreshing, compared to all the other FPS games on the market.

Phew, I was worried there for a second. Thought nobody cared, but as it turns out... none of you saw my thread, so I'll let you off.

But yeah, I really hope this rumour comes to fruition... because I have been itching for a new TimeSplitters game for years now.

Timesplitters one wasn't much. But TS2 and three. Those are two of the most memorable games I have ever played. That was the go to multiplayer, and it has a great cast of characters for singleplayer. I have all three, and I wish the third was backwords compatible on 360, 'cause I and my brother got that on Xbox when it came out. We have TS2 on gamecube, so that's not an issue. I wonder how many hours I have on those games, that was one of the first games I've ever sat up through the night and played, now I can sadly do that whenever I feel like it.

It would seem like a dream come true, Timesplitters with the CryEngine 3, but if they put as many glitches in Timesplitters as there were in Crysis 2 on console, it'll be disappointing. I know I and my brother'll get this game first day. If it comes, I'm so excited! Oh, and I prefer the old way of doing it, but with some tweaks. Also, I bet they could make a good Haze 2, I think the game was flawed in many aspects, but it had potential. People have little faith.

@chrismafuchris: It plays pretty much identical to Perfect Dark, and I PERSONALLY consider that style of shooting outdated.

@EuanDewar: The first one's perhaps, but I see no problem with how the later two play. What exactly do you mean when you say that it needs to be modernized? Are you saying that it needs to be slowed down, you need to aim down the sights and that it needs perks?

@chrismafuchris: It needs a little more depth, I don't know how they could add that. Perks might be fun, if they keep them relevant to the wacky style of the game, hell, I ain't no games designer. Alls I knows is that I went back and played 2 a month or two ago and was not enjoying it a whole lot. I appear to be in the minority on that so, meh.

TimeSplitters 2 is probably my favorite FPS ever so I am always interested in more TS news. Outside of announcing that TS4 will forgo the style of the old games in favor of a more realistic shooter, I don't see how any announcement could be bad.

Gamesradar which is owned by future, who also owns PTOM UK had a whole article about what could make Timesplitters 4 great. I don't know if someone tipped them off or if they're making this up but they sure seem to believe that 4 is definitely on the horizon

Loved playing Timesplitters 2 and Loved Future Perfect's hilarious story mode.  A new Timesplitters could be fun but I'm not into First person shooters as I used to be.  If a new one is made it would have to retain all the craziness and comedy the other ones had.

It should keep the old formula. Not every game has adapt to the Call of Duty style.

I really want them to stick to the old forumula, this is one of the main reasons that i still like TS 6 years on.

they already did a Call of Duty with monkeys, its called Black Ops

I'm not sure a Timesplitters game would play today, FPS have advanced so much since then. If it was made they would probably have to update it., but then it stops being Timesplitters and becomes a FPS with monkeys in it.

It was a Free Radical game, but I remember reading that the people working on Haze, and the people working on TS4 were not the same. I think Crytek bought the "good team".

The prospect is certainly an interesting one but I am 100% sure I don't want to play an old style Timesplitters game. Shit needs to be updated.

Updated how? Allowing you to jump? Regenerative health? A free-roam structure? Levelling up in MP?

If thats what constitutes an update, then I say hell no. The way the games are stylized makes them still look good even today, just give sharper textures and an even higher framerate and thats all the updating you could need. New characters, levels, weapons, and such is a must obviously.
