    Overview

Titan was the codename given to a new MMORPG being developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Development reportedly began in 2007, but after seven years in development, it was made public on September 23, 2014 that the game had been cancelled. Little to no information on Titan was ever revealed to the public beyond the fact that it was an MMORPG of some nature, and that its lore was not tied to any existing Blizzard properties like Warcraft and Starcraft. The developer was aiming to create a game with broad appeal, for both casual and dedicated players, similar to the audience of World of Warcraft.

At Blizzcon 2011, Rob Pardo from Blizzard stated that the game was in pre-production research and development, and was close to entering full production. At that point there were around ninety developers working on the title. However, the project was reset during 2013, and seventy percent of the team was relocated to other projects.

    Project Reset

On May 28, 2013, rumors started to circulate that the hundred people working on the project had been reduced by seventy, and that the remaining core team was now focusing on starting over. The expected publishing date was also pushed up to 2016, at the earliest.

Blizzard spokesman Shon Damron confirmed the rumors with the following comment: "We’ve always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception. We’ve come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We’re using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes. Note that we haven’t announced any dates for the MMO".

    Project Cancellation

On September 23, 2014, Phillip Kollar of Polygon confirmed in an interview with CEO of Blizzard Mike Morhaime that the Titan project had been cancelled. The reevaluation period that followed the project reset in May of 2013 led Blizzard to conclude that the game wasn't really what they "wanted to be making."

    Overwatch

At BlizzCon 2014, Blizzard revealed Overwatch, a Team Fortress 2-like multiplayer FPS. Overwatch was born out of Titan's PVP component. Many of the class types and characters found in Overwatch were part of Titan with some having different names (Tracer was called Jumper and Reinhardt was called Juggernaut in Titan).
