The 1st reviews are in for Splinter Cell Conviction and it's getting high scores (9ish). I'm thinking of getting this game after these good reviews, but do you think the game is really that good?

No it is a terrible game. All the charm of the other splinter cell games are gone. They made the game far to easy, even on the hardest difficulty. It feels more like gears of war than splinter cell. 
 
If your new to the series, you might like it. If your a returning fan, you will be disapointed.

The demo is quite impressive.

So should I buy it?

Wait for a few more reviews before making any decisions.

It's a fine, fine title.

This discussion (generally speaking, not this thread particularly) is going to end the way the Resident Evil discussion ends anymore. Conviction breaks from the old formula, and some people are going to interpret it as a welcome evolution, and others are going to feel a sense of betrayal of the stalwart mechanics and stealth-based tone. 
 
I'm with the former, based on what I've seen/played. Looks very good.

No spies vs mercs. I was hoping they would get it right after the trainwreck that was double agent.

I would say play the demo and see if you like that before buying the game, regardless of the reviews.

After the campaign was over so quickly, I was disappointed. owever, I've gone back and played it again, and am playing Hunter mode and coop alot. I'd say its a fine game

I'm probably three quarters through the game so far and I'm simply not impressed. A goofy storyline. Gameplay out of about 1998, but dumbed down a bit. Unintelligent AI. Repetitive and goofy enemy dialogue. Absolutely nothing impressive about the graphics (though not awful, either). Audio is very awkward -- often, it's like the audio has no sense of WHERE the audio source is in the game and it's all being played through some "god like" channel that has no direction to it. All in all, I'm glad it was $51 on Amazon and that I used a $20 discount on top of that. It's probably about a $30 game.

It isn't splinter cell anymore. It's a good game, but is not the same gameplay experience as it's predecessors
