Just playing through the demo something like twelve times I can already tell that new direction is definitely for the better.

    • Walk speed does not affect your stealth, long as your not running.
    • Unlimited pistol ammo allows you more freedom and options
    • Execute system is a powerful ability, but not overpowered. I like having to get a hand to hand kill before it's use.
    • Smaller character models.
    • Sliding into cover Gears of War style doesn't make you a sitting duck in firefights
    • Grief beard.

All those reasons are why I am not liking this one. They took out all of the stealth and difficulty. Now the game feels clunky, and disease ridden

I used to have a hard time with the Splinter Cell games, they made you think about different ways to approach a situation other than just shoot to kill. But conviction is pretty much "press B to win game". I got through the entire demo without getting noticed once, I hope the rest of the game is a bit more diffucult than the demo.

I'm afraid to even try out them demo; I'm a huge fan of the prior games (beat all of them multiple times, even Pandora Tomorrow and *gasp*, Double Agent, and I'm afraid that they may have changed too much.

     I disagree.

    • Walk speed should affect your stealth.
    • Unlimited pistol ammo makes no sense in a realistic game.
    • Execute system is definitely overpowered. There's no skill to pressing a button.

Ok so I pretty pissed off. Conviction is my most anticipated game of the year and Xbox Live won't let me download the demo because my account only says I'm 17 (I was 12 when I made the account and didn't think about lying about my age). So I go onto another account and it still won't let me download it because its gold exclusive! WTF! I usually just download Mature demos on my PS3, but that doesn't work this time because its an exclusive.

Does anyone know if you can call customer support and change your account information and make it so I no longer have a child's account. I mean I can go to the store and legally buy God of War 3 but I can't download a mature demo, even though it lets me buy mature DLC and Games on Demand.

I liked the old Splinter Cell games with the trial and error. It gave me a great sense of accomplishment. The demo was very easy on Realistic, especially with all the sticky cams and stuff, and it's obvious that it's a different kind of game. Hopefully it has more high-tech espionage stuff like Double Agent.
Either way, I'm buying it. It's still Sam Fisher and grief beard is amazing.

A lot of those sound fine for an action game, but certainly not an improvement for a stealth game. I'd be interested to know how mechanical the whole "perform stealth kills to earn mark and execute kills" gets throughout the game. I imagine it will feel more gamey than natural.

while i do think that ubisoft have churned out a dumbed down splinter cell experience with new mechanics and some slick artistry, i did find the demo enjoyable. in the context of where the story of splinter cell is now, the new style of game play makes perfect sense. i cannot see it being a favourite for old time splinter cell fans, though.

Being a long time fan of the Splinter Cell series (primarily on PC), I can safely say I loved the demo and look forward to the final product. At the same time I can also say this game has been made to cater to the console kiddie crowd. Even on realistic the only way I die is if I act incredibly stupid (play carelessly). Hell, I can go through the levels not even using "Mark and Execute" or melee kills...I can treat it like a straight up TPS and survive most of the time. If the final game is actually challenging on Realistic then I'll be happy.

I like it, I loved the old stealth games, but they feel a bit dated.  This definitely gives me the old Splinter Cell vibe but modernized.

I thought the execute system would be more complicated then just a single button press. At first the game looked awesome because it looked like Sam had awesome mobility and accuracy and really felt like an elite operative. Now it just feels awful, everything is too simplified, enemies are retarded. Assassin's creed was awesome becomes sure there were stealth kills but when you got into combat there were some pretty awesome counters you could do, I would've really liked to see that here.

From the demo, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, this game looks terrible.

Well I can put my finger on it, to tell the truth: From the awful enemy character reactions, stunningly bad voice acting from Ubisoft, to a half broken cover system and pointless interrogation system we have something that is somehow worse than the previous Splinter Cell games.

I'll go and play my MGS and Assassin's Creed for stealth action than this game that plays like an early Beta at best.

    • Sliding into cover Gears of War style doesn't make you a sitting duck in firefights
    • Was this ever a problem? You had to slow down when there were people around. Seems like a pretty sensible mechanic to me.
    • Pistol ammo was limited; did you not notice?
    • ...What?
    • If you are playing a Splinter Cell prior to Conviction, and you are getting into firefights, then you are playing it wrong.

Just for the record; I don't think the other games are 'better' than conviction. Conviction has changed so many of the core mechanics it's hard to compare the two styles of gameplay with any degree of accuracy. Not better, just different.
