Not much info thus far, but all the rumors about a more "survival" oriented Tomb Raider game seem to be right on the mark. Also digging the new look for Lara.

A young and inexperienced Lara Croft is shipwrecked on a mysterious island in this reboot of the beloved action adventure franchise, which departs from the mood of prior games in the series.
Crystal Dynamics just announced a new Tomb Raider
Now, I'm not gonna judge the game without really knowing much, but as far as first impressions go, based on that image and the press release, I have zero interest in this game. And I usually like TR games. I am totally not digging that new look, it looks too soft, nothing like the Lara we've seen since 199whenevethefirstTRcameout. And I'm sure that's intentional (she's younger!), but it doesn't even look like she'd become that woman.
That's an interesting idea, but the real problem with Tomb Raider is that it played rather poorly. Hopefully they can fix that.
As for her look? Eh, she's cute. She also looks human. I don't know if that helps or hinders, considering how stylized past Tomb Raider games have been.
So Survival Kids and Lost in Blue. But with Lara Croft?
I love me some Lost in Blue. If they do it right I might check it out. Chances are they wont do it right.
Based off of that mugshot alone, I like the new look for Lara. Then again her body could be some ridiculously proportioned shit for all I know so I'll keep my enthusiam in check.
I don't really know why they keep giving Lara a new look. I can understand toning back her Gianna Michaels-esque physique when going from PSone to PS2 but she looks completely different to the Lara from the previous games. So much for brand recognition.
" Based off of that mugshot alone, I like the new look for Lara. Then again her body could be some ridiculously proportioned shit for all I know so I'll keep my enthusiam in check. "I think Crystal Dynamics have done a really decent job in making her look more normal since they got their hands on the series. They've never even come close to the ridiculous Angel of Darkness-like proportions.
I like the direction they are heading with the new TR game, but I'd really like it if they went back and made another Kain/Raziel game. Sigh...
" So this is basically going to be Lost meets Uncharted? "I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty awesome to me.
the idea of a survival based lara croft is intriguing, and they've nailed the new look. she actually looks like a human being now, i just hope the rest of her is normal. they could have done a bit better with the plot outline, but still, survival based sounds very interesting.
The leaks from months back suggested this was an open world / survival game with multiplayer elements.
Sounded really cool and from what they've revealed here, it all seems to be true.
I have a few concerns though. As much as I love Uncharted, I hope they don't just try to emulate that. Uncharted is really more about the action where as TR has always been much slower paced. It should still be focused on the exploration and puzzle solving. Secondly, why is this a reboot? The franchise was rebooted just a few years ago when Crystal Dynamics took over with the Legend series and those games were good and the story was very much cleaned up. This could have simply served as a prequel, why completely do away with Amanda and everything good that the Legend series brought?
I'm really not a fan of "dark, gritty reboots". Especially when they just use the damn franchise title.
" This is first time I actually think Lara is hot...... what does that say about me. "You're gay.
Funny. I never saw this topic on the forums until now, but yeah. I'm intrigued, but I need to see more than just a teaser.
" @trophyhunter said:No, I thought it was more odd that I only now found her hot when she is dirty and bloody." This is first time I actually think Lara is hot...... what does that say about me. "You're gay. "
Is that a bow over her should on the full cover? The idea sounds cool and the art looks good. Really interested to see what the gameplay looks like.
As someone who's never played a Tomb Raider game before, I am interested in seeing what they can come up with. HOWEVER,
As much as I am really digging the promo cover,
The full version of the image is rather troubling...
That has to be the longest fucking mullet I have ever seen. Or else the angle on this is just weird. But still. MULLET.
" I like the direction they are heading with the new TR game, but I'd really like it if they went back and made another Kain/Raziel game. Sigh... "HELL FUCKING YES. when will Edios...I mean Square (that still sounds weird) realize that they need to finish the story arch of Defiance.
Yeah, I mean those are the "real" vampires that need to cash in on during the craze. Plus, still think the Omen/Reaver stories lines are some of the best in gaming.
" @Bones8677 said:I know most people say it as "Lah-ra", and not "Lare-a" , so it might sound pretty similar to Laura. Also, Lara is not a particularly common name in the States, so people might be unconsciously reverting to the more common Laura." @CaLe said:I don't mean typing her name Laura. Just how I've heard many people (Americans) pronounce it as Laura on podcasts. "" I never understand why Americans call her Laura Croft. It's Lara dammit. "Whose calling her Laura? "
