No Tombs to Be Found In This Debut Tomb Raider Trailer

Trailer was cool enough. Hopefully the game turns out good!

And I must say, that is one sexy Lara!

#152 Posted by rudyarr (251 posts) -

Lara and Nathan Drake should have a baby

#153 Posted by Cupids_Hitman (164 posts) -
@crimsonavenger: Oh yeah, 'cause you can totally tell how good a game is from a single pre-rendered trailer.
#154 Posted by vexidus (123 posts) -

Wow, amazing music. Lara's new character design looks gorgeous! That trailer got me pretty excited for this. Too bad it's over a year and a half away..

#155 Posted by Xpgamer7 (2377 posts) -

I hate it when I lose my cell phone.

#156 Posted by ZarakixKenpachi (395 posts) -

Really curious at what the gameplay'll be like, this seems like quite the departure. More shooting? Even less and a focus on traversal? I haven't played a Tomb Raider game in about 10 years, so hopefully this is interesting.

#157 Posted by MeatSim (10772 posts) -

I like how those old wooden ships are still intact and that modern ship ripped in half like it was made out of foil.

#158 Edited by Parsnip (1077 posts) -

Finally a pretty Lara.

The previous one in Underworld looked like a god damn alien.

Don't really care for the new voice though, at least so far.

Also, people need to stop talking about SquareEnix. Westerners can make pretty CGI too, this looks like Crystal D all the way.

i like how shes all banged up, yet her skimpy shirt is just a little dirty. :D

@Ezekeilpurger: Those are created to create excitement, and it has done so, with the usually skepticism. Still, I'm finally interested in a Tomb Raider game again.

This could be interesting, but I need to know more first.

so hot, i look forward to this

#164 Posted by Klarion18 (72 posts) -

I think I'll wait for some gameplay first to really get excited. Here's to hoping there are survival tactics to employ to keep alive, find food and shelter.

#165 Posted by thenexus (330 posts) -

That is some really nice rendered graphics there. Water effects were really good!

I'm actually interested in a Tomb Raider game again, nice work Square Enix, hope the game is good =)

#168 Posted by golguin (3848 posts) -

I think this is the first time I've thought Lara's design was pretty hot so I guess square is going in the right direction.

#169 Posted by RaidenMitsuru (202 posts) -

This CG is fucking MINT.

#170 Posted by Jolt92 (1543 posts) -

So this is Uncharted with Lara Croft?

They got me! Nice tone to it all.

I would like to see some footage of the game being played, but I like the direction this trailer is setting up.

#175 Posted by X19 (2304 posts) -

Alright Lara I want to give you another chance.

#176 Posted by UnsolvedParadox (1862 posts) -

This is really slick, I'm interested in seeing more...

#177 Posted by MonkeyKing1969 (2571 posts) -

Nobody wants to look at a bloody beat up person, except psychopaths. Did someone at a meeting say, "Well this looks too much like Nathan Drake, so can we make her darker. For instance can you make her look like a domestic abuse victim? No, more blood...make it look like someone shit blood on her head."

They someone else said, "Nathan Drake is always on these islands, so how can our island be different." Then someone remember that raft of plastic in the Pacific Ocean, and says, "What if Lara island is covered with trash like a giant environmental disaster...that's edgy right? When people see what would otherwise be a pristine beach turned into the world’s largest dump they will feel real emotional."

"Okay to wrap up our character looks like a domestic abuse victim and our setting in the largest environment disaster; and that is what will hook the game players who in nothing else want to think about how horrible and disgusting the world can really be!!!!" says a smug idiot in a thousand dollor suit.

Less shooting. It has more of an emphasis on survival, exploration and puzzles.

You have to scavange for food to survive, materials to build equipment to reach new areas and the new physics make the puzzles more complex.

Basically, they do seem to be trying to set the series apart from Uncharted as much as possible.

Good trailer, no gameplay though. But I like it.

#180 Posted by GozerTC (456 posts) -

Once again Square/Enix proves they can do CG.  Will they once again prove they suck at doing good gameplay?  :(

Lookin' good- I love the ships from all generations crashed on this island, can't wait.

#182 Posted by dyong (331 posts) -

Tomb Raider Snake Eater? Sounds like a good concept.

#183 Posted by rocketboot (128 posts) -

@MonkeyKing1969:

Wrong. I love to see characters pushed to their limits. Often that means physically. Someone getting beaten within inches of their life and having to fight to survive makes for a great story.

That is one HARD as fuck looking Lara Croft. I haven't played a tomb raider game since 1997, but I am compelled to check this out.

Im excited to see more, but I'm not letting my guard down just yet

Agreed with this. One just has to look at Blizzard's cinematics.
#186 Posted by Milkman (16535 posts) -

Who else was half expecting Nathan Drake to reach his hand down and save her?

#187 Edited by Kontrapunkt (413 posts) -

So it looks to be, the crafting of system of dead rising, the platforming of TR, and survival elements.
Even from what little we've seen, it looks like they have the right direction, art, theme, tone and time to make it. I'm still loyal, best of luck CD!

Does anyone hear the VVVVVV pause music on Lara's phone?

Was just about to mention Blizzard, gone are the times of Japanese CGI being above all else, talent is internationally shared.

Well, I mean, it's not gameplay so I can't really judge it, but the spirit of it all seems really cool. I think I'm going to go play Uncharted 2 now.

#190 Posted by SpikeDelight (687 posts) -

This looks good. Uncharted, but with Lara Croft. I hope she's voiced by Nolan North in the final build!

#191 Posted by destruktive (1069 posts) -

huh.. her boobs seem semi-normal.. Wow

#192 Posted by RVonE (4605 posts) -

I could really go for a new TR game right about now. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this one. Make it happen CD!

#193 Posted by dael (19 posts) -

People used to compare drake with TR, I think after this game is going to be the other way around.

Edit: Also, anyone else getting the feeling they're marketing this game to the BDSM fan-base? Young, pretty girl, barely clad, getting hurt and abused in every which way. It does seem a bit sadistic. Especially when you consider the posh, tenor voice crying out every few seconds in pain.

Yeah I think you may be onto something. Though I think tenor is supposed to be male. Either way this game should be hawt.
#195 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) -

I was totally expecting HER to get her shit together and escape death, not the hand of an elderly gentleman to save her.

The only Tomb Raider game I've ever played was Tomb Raider Legend.  I enjoyed it, but wasn't very impressed with it.

This, however looks amazing so far.  Great CGI Trailer, too.  It's going to be a long wait for it, though.

Have you seen the in-game images. They're pretty good.

Still. It looks more interesting than all the other Tomb Raider games.
You do realize that Uncharted is a Tomb Raider clone originally right?

It's more a tradition of the genre, even the very first games in that genre, back when it was 2D, where like that, see Prince of Persia or Another World. You get chopped in half by traps, pierced by stakes, etc. The standard way to die in Another World is by a laser shoot that blows the flesh of your bones.

Brutal deaths have been around in gaming for god knows how long; you've definitely got a point there. What is more seldom seem, however; is the same level of visceral pain done to the character while they're still alive, and their reactions to it. There's been a few games that have tried to really show the consequences of being wounded; like "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater", which had you cutting out bullets, sowing cuts, and attempting to push a joint back into it's socket. "MGS" was pretty much the only game to pull it off well, but others like" Alone in the Dark" (The not so brilliant remake) and (the very brilliant) "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" tried, as well. I remember quite how gruesome it was to go into the character menu, look at your character after having been damaged (who you otherwise only saw from first-person view) to find that a bone was literally sticking out of my character's leg, and that he had gotten half his jawn blown off. (Not so surprising, this explained why he didn't walk all that fast and kept losing health).

In this next game, we're going to see little Lara break bones, have her arm completely torn up, suffer a stomach wound; all while still alive, and thanks to the technology, we'll see the tears flowing down her face, grimacing.. And probably screaming in a really girly-voice. You don't see this often in gaming, most developers try to go around women (and children, damn you Fallout 3) dying in any gruesome way. Even God of War 3 took obvious steps around it; where the only two female gods Kratos comes across, he either bangs or simply breaks the others neck. It's a pretty bold approach, one I'm liking; but I'll gladly admit that I think I'll be cringing a bit from time to time.
