Ever since Tony Hawk let slip that some kind of Tony Hawk-related announcement would be announced by Tony Hawk at tonight's Spike Video Game Awards, the prevailing hope among commenters seemed to be that it would be not a new game, but rather some kind of HD collection of perhaps the first three Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games. Now Tony Hawk has made the aforementioned Tony Hawk-related announcement (to Joystiq on the red carpet, hilariously enough), and, well, it's almost that thing you wanted.

The newly unveiled "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD" isn't the first three games made HD-ified, but rather a "selection" of levels from the first two Tony Hawk games, including "Downhill" and "School." The collection will be released on various digital platforms next year.

The total lack of anything Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is kind of a bummer, but hey, they're still good Tony Hawk games! Again! In HD! That's cool!

Huh, I had no idea all those 'joke' expections would be true. Great stuff. I wonder what the mechcanics will be like, will it take anything from 3 onwards?

Clearly they plan on adding additional games' content through DLC. This is Activision we're talking about.

I enjoyed all the THPS games, as well as THUG. The level design was still solid in THUG, but in THUG2 thing went to shit. I blame that Margera kid.

i loved the original trilogy but then they added like story modes and stuff and i droped them i think i might actually buy this one

THPS2 is still my favorite of the series. Sunk way too many hours into that game.

Yes please!  The first 4 Tony Hawk games are some of my fondest memories.  I played THPS4 with my buddy every day after school for like a year. We got so ridiculously good at those games.

I only want THPS3, lol.

I always immediately turned off the music in THPS2/3 because I hated it all so much, so...no problem here.

3's great even out of HD. PS2 son.

Dude, both those games are like a dollar at any used games store you can find.

Bummed its not the full games, but a best of from 1 and 2 is fantastic. I'm actually glad they left out 3. I always felt it was the worst of the original four.

Feels half-assed, but it's a much better alternative to "Tony Hawk: Now It's A Go Kart Sim, Also Something Vaguely Punk-Sounding".

Wow, cant believe they feel this will sell when the standard for HD collections have been the full games in the past. I guess if its a $10-15 download it might fly, but this seems like more work for some reason. I'd just put THPS3 and add in the few levels from 1 & 2 that people want and charge $30 for it.

If it doesn't have the original soundtracks, just plug in your iPod with a playlist of all the THPS songs. PROBLEM SOLVED

For once, I don't care. I've bought a lot of DLC, and that stuff would totally be worth paying for, in my mind.

This better include the soundtracks form THPS 1+2.

2 is clearly the best THPS.

Okay, okay, so my computer at the time couldn't run 3 properly...

@MormonWarrior: That's not what I'm disappointed about. My missing copies will get replaced either way. It would just be nice if I was able to replace them with a HD version.

This is exactly what I wanted the game to be, I'm not sure why some people wanted an HD collection with separate games.. Mixing them up into one big one is much better, in my opinion. Including 3 + 4 would have been nice too, but hey, they need room for a sequel/DLC.

Oh, and there's no chance of it having the original soundtracks.. but we have custom soundtracks these days, so what's the problem?

I would have preferred Tony Hawk 1, 2, 3 and 4 in their entirety but well depending on the price I guess I am hopeful.

I will only buy this if all the soundtracks are intact.
