The last great Diablo-style game I had fun with was Titan Quest: Immortal Throne. I've heard lots of good things about Torchlight so far, but I can't really tell the difference between the two other than art style. For those of you that have bought and enjoyed it, please give me the reasons as to why this is better than TQ:IT. Thanks.

It's definitely a lot simpler than Titan Quest. The "talent" trees in TQ were kind of strange and cluttered. In Torchlight though its a lot cleaner like WoW. The main thing I like about the talent trees though is that in each tree you don't have to have a certain number of points in that tree to unlock the more advanced skills, its just level based. So you can check out all 3 of the class's best abilities without much trouble.

If you don't care about online, and liked Diablo 2, then this game is pretty fun.

The reason I like this game over TQ myself is the 1 main hub, and then dungeons below.  If you played diablo 1 think of the way that games levels are.  Every 5 levels you go down you get a waypoint to the next area.  I'm in level 31 I think, and it seems I only have about half the waypoints.  The environments are also really cool, and there's some pretty insane boss fights.  The game in general seems a little more out of control and chaotic than TQ imo.  So if you're not turned off by a ton of shit going on at once then I'd highly suggest it.  If you don't feel comfortable dropping the 20 bucks right away steam has a demo version you can play.  Not sure how long of a demo it is, but it convinced one of my friends to pick it up.

Matt Uelmen (of Diablo fame) composed the music.
No matter what class you are, you get a pet which is really useful. It can sell items for you while you're in dungeons, cast spells (my dog can cast fireball and heal) hold items for you, equip items, shapeshift depending on what you feed it...
It's not totally breakable with a doubleclick button like TQ.
None of the classes are useless, whereas in TQ classes are all over the place in terms of balance.
It's $20 and the people that make it listen to their customers!

I'm not concerned with the price so much as I'm concerned about the time spent playing it. I don't want to spend a dozen hours playing it if it doesn't offer an experience significantly different or better than TQ, which I've already played.

Not quite sure what would be significantly different to you.  For some people significantly different is a roster update and slightly upgraded graphics.  TL is different from TQ in the way Shadow Complex is different from Super Metroid.  Same general gameplay, different graphics and slightly different upgrades/abilities.

I'm not someone who feels all games should have multiplayer, but this is a Diablo clone, having other players greatly adds to the experience, even just having one friend to adventure with would have made the game massively more appealing in my opinion.  I still enjoy it, and I'd still recommend it a lot, but it's not a must buy for the lack of multiplayer alone.

Aint that the truth. I can find joy in single and multi.
