    Total War: Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai is a standalone expansion to Total War: Shogun 2 which focuses on the Boshin civil war and the Meiji Restoration.

    Better to buy this or just Shogun 2?

    With this game on sale today, would it be better to get the Original Shogun 2 or just to skip to Fall of the Samurai? I haven't played either of them previously, but I have dabbled with some of the other Total War games.

    If anyone has any insight that would be great.

    Well in general the original concerns clan wars fought in feudal japan. Fall of the Samurai introduces non-japanese forces which include heavy artillery and firearms. Fall of the samurai is kind of like an expansion that takes place in a different time period and shakes up the mechanics quite significantly. If you only get one I would say fall of the samurai has everything the original did (expect the campaigns obviously) and has a lot of diversity and very great campaigns of its own.
