Overview

Need more electric gel to zap that Big Daddy, or how about some trusty anti-personnel rounds to deal with that troublesome splicer? Can't find them? No problem - invent 'em!

The machine gives detailed descriptions of the inventions
U-Invent machines are scattered throughout the watery halls of Rapture, and serve as locations where you can show your technical know-how by piecing together parts and materials that you have gathered while exploring the vast underwater dystopia. There are a number of items that you can craft using the machine, such as ammunition, auto-hack tools, and even gene tonics. Every item that is available for invention has specific required parts ranging from alcohol, enzymes, and shell casings, all the way to chlorophyll solution. When you have the required parts, and the correct number of them, you can create the item that you wish to, and the parts will be deducted from your inventory.

However, though the inventions have a required number of parts, you can reduce each part by one (x1) by either hacking the machine first or having the Clever Inventor gene tonic equipped. In addition, you can create twice as many items as usual if you have the Prolific Inventor gene tonic equipped, a tonic that can only be acquired through aiding Bridgette Tenenbaum.

Tip - Upon completing the second level of Leadhead Splicer research, you'll be awarded with the Scrounger gene tonic. With the Scrounger tonic equipped, you can search containers and dead corpses twice, giving you a better chance of finding the specific component you're looking for.

List of Inventions

Below is a list of the items that you can invent, as well as a short description:

Antipersonnel Pistol Rounds x6
These heavy-hitting pistol caliber rounds will do serious damage to any splicer unfortunate enough to be in their path.
Required Components: Rubber Hose x2, Shell Casing x3, Steel Screw x1

Armor-Piercing Auto Rounds x20
Particularly effective against the hulking Big Daddies, these rounds will also slice through whatever turret or security system you can throw at them.
Required Components: Kerosene x2, Shell Casing x3, Brass Tube x1

Automatic Hack Tool x1
Low on health and don't want to risk a short-circuit? Well, with an auto-hack at your disposal even a moron can't fail.
Required Components: Rubber Hose x4, Battery x4, Brass Tube x1

Bloodlust x1
Sure, bashing splicers' heads in with a wrench is fun as is, but what if you could gain a small amount of health and EVE every time you did it?
Required Components: Glue x5, Enzyme Sample x4, Empty Hypo x3

Booze Hound x1
Consuming alcohol restores a small amount of EVE rather than reducing it.
Required Components: Glue x5, Enzyme Sample x4, Empty Hypo x3

Electric Gel x25
Whether surrounded by splicers or dealing with a tricky turret, a good electrical shock from your chemical thrower can halt any attack.
Required Components: Distilled Water x3, Battery x2, Alcohol x1

Exploding Buck x3
A highly explosive and sometimes inflammatory shotgun round that makes dealing death a true pleasure.
Required Components: Kerosene x3, Shell Casing x2, Steel Screw x1

Hacker's Delight 2 x1
Regain a small amount of health and EVE every time you hack a device. An improved version of Hacker's Delight.
Required Components: Alcohol x5, Enzyme Sample x4, Empty Hypo x3

Heat-Seeking RPG x2
Great for dealing with quick moving enemies, the Heat-Seeking RPG delivers an explosive payload effective against almost all enemies.
Required Components: Distilled Water x3, Kerosene x2, Brass Tube x1

Lazarus Vector x1
A one time invention, you must create the Lazarus Vector to dispel the toxins from the Arcadia region.
Required Components: Chlorophyll Solution x7, Distilled Water x7, Enzyme Sample x7

Trap Bolt x6
Sure, head to head combat is exciting, but little else is more rewarding than drawing an unsuspecting Big Daddy into a well laid trap.
Required Components: Battery x2, Glue x3, Alcohol x1

List of Components

Below is a list of the various parts and materials that are required for inventing the different items, as well as where they can most often be found:

Alcohol
A jug of this stuff has many uses, but we're only concerned about its ability to aid in item construction.
Most Often Found: Corpses, Cellars
Required to Build: Electric Gel x25, Hacker's Delight 2 x1, Trap Bolt x6

Battery
Without this device, you won't meet the energy requirements to finish your invention.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Automatic Hack Tool x1, Electric Gel x25, Trap Bolt x6

Brass Tube
Yeah, a brass tube.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Armor-Piercing Auto Rounds x20, Automatic Hack Tool x1, Heat-Seeking RPG x2

Chlorophyll Solution
No, not Chloroform. We're talking about extracted plant pigment, here.
Most Often Found: Corpses of Houdini splicers in Arcadia
Required to Build: Lazarus Vector x1

Distilled Water

A container of water free of impurities, thanks to the distillation process.
Most Often Found: Arcadia Farmer's Market, Cellars
Required to Build: Electric Gel x25, Heat-Seeking RPG x2, Lazarus Vector x1

Empty Hypo

A hypodermic syringe that's, well, empty.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Bloodlust x1, Booze Hound x1, Hacker's Delight 2 x1

Enzyme Sample

A sample of protein used to catalyze the chemical reactions needed during the construction process.
Most Often Found: Arcadia Farmer's Market, Bee Hives
Required to Build: Bloodlust x1, Booze Hound x1, Hacker's Delight 2 x1, Lazarus Vector x1

Glue
The bonding solution necessary to keep your invented item in tip-top condition for years to come!
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Bloodlust x1, Booze Hound x1, Trap Bolt x6

Kerosene

A highly flammable fuel needed to produce something I like to call "invention energy."
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Armor-Piercing Auto Rounds x20, Exploding Buck x3, Heat-Seeking RPG x2

Rubber Hose

A lengthy hollow tube made from an elastic hydrocarbon polymer. Or, in other words, a rubber hose.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Antipersonnel Pistol Rounds x6, Automatic Hack Tool x1

Shell Casing
The cartridge used to house the bullet(s), gunpowder, and primer for whatever type of ammunition you're making.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Antipersonnel Pistol Rounds x6, Armor-Piercing Auto Rounds x20, Exploding Buck x3

Steel Screw
A threaded fastener used to hold your other invention components together.
Most Often Found: Corpses
Required to Build: Antipersonnel Pistol Rounds x6, Exploding Buck x3
