Ubisoft Entertainment (formerly Ubi Soft) is a French Video game publisher and developer with its headquarters in Montreuil-Sous-Bois, France.

Ubisoft Entertainment  is a french computer and videogame developer and publisher with headquarters in Montreuil-sous-Bois, France. It was founded by Yves Guillemot, a chairman and CEO. The company has facilities in over 20 countries. As of 2004, it was the third-largest independent videogame publisher in Europe and the seventh largest in the United States. Ubisoft ranked 21st on the list of the largest software companies in the world.  There most famous games and franchises are, The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time series, Rayman franchise, Brothers in Arms, Tom Clancy's franchise which includes the Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell series.

Ubisoft was created by the five Guillemot brothers, in 1986. Soon the company got publishing deals with companies like Electronic Arts, Sierra On-Line and LucasArts, and exclusive rights to distribute their games in France. In 1991 Ubisoft expanded their distribution to United States, Germany and United Kingdom. Ubisoft also started their own development studios in France and Romania, in the early 90s. In 1995 the company developed and published Rayman, for the Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation. The game became the best selling Playstation title of all time in UK.

Ubisoft has expanded heavily through the years. Between 1997 and 2000 the company established several production studios in China, Canada, Spain, Italy and Morocco. Ubisoft also acquired Red Storm Entertainment, and Blue Byte Software. The company introduced a new logo in 2004, and a part of MC2-Microïds was acquired and integrated into Ubisoft Montreal a year later. On November 10, 2008, Ubisoft acquired Massive Entertainment, the developers of Ground Control and World in Conflict.

Ubisoft has many studios around the world, which helped it become one of the largest video game publisher in Europe. Here are a few of their most well known studios.


Ubisoft Montreal

  
Ubisoft Montreal is located in Montreal, Canada. It has around 1,700 employees. With that number it is one of the largest studios in the world. They are also probably Ubisoft's biggest maker of games. They started making games in 1997 when it was founded. They currently have developed 26 games, with four more still being developed. games are the Tom Clancy's games. In the Tom Clancy franchise they have developed the Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six games. They also have done the very popular Prince of Perisa games, the newest one being released in 2008. They also developed the Assissin's Creed games. The most recent one to come out in that franchise is set to be released November of 2009.



Ubisoft Romania

Ubisoft Romania is located in Bucharest, Romania. They are rather small compaired to Ubisoft Montreal, with only 400 employees. It might be most known for its chess game Chessmaster. They also have done a few flying simulators, which are the Blazing Angels games and most recently H.A.W.K. They also have done the last three games in the Silent Hunter franchise.

Ubisoft Paris

 Ubisoft Paris studio. Ubisoft Paris is located in Paris, France. They have worked on a couple of games. Their most famous work is the Red Steel series for the Wii. They also developed Raving Rabbids 2 and XIII.







Ubisoft Montpellier

Ubisoft Montpellier is located in Montpellier, France. Their most noteable games are the Rayman series. Also they developed Beyond Good & Evil and they are also working on the sequel. They also made the Peter Jackson's King Kong game.


Lawsuits

In 2008 Optical Experts Manufacturing (OEM) leaked and distribution of Assassin's Creed for the PC. Ubisoft sued for $20 million. Ubisoft claimed that OEM did not protect it's product, which in the contracted it stated that OEM must protect Ubisoft's products so things like this wouldn't happen.
