    Founded in 1997 in the small Swedish town of Ronneby, the software company now based in Malmö, quickly rose to international fame through such popular RTS titles as the Ground Control series and World in Conflict. In 2002 the company was acquired by Vivendi Games and in 2008 the company was briefly run by Activision Blizzard before being sold to Ubisoft on November 11, 2008.

    Massive has contributed work to Ubisoft games like Assassin's Creed Revelations and Far Cry 3, and released The Division on March 8th, 2016.

    In early 2017 Massive announced that they were working on a new game based on the Avatar movies with the working title Avatar Project. They also announced that they would hire an additional 200 people for the new team. In August, 2017 they revealed that the new Ubisoft Stockholm studio would work together with Massive on the new Avatar game.
