It Took About 20 Minutes for the Entire Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Roster to Leak Out

Posted by Alex (2045 posts) -

If you're one of those sad, depressing old people who likes to kick back and enjoy a long, labored schedule of character reveals stretched out over however many months a PR team has to in order to maximize coverage for a game that's essentially a reboot of a game that came out less than six months ago, you can just go read something else right about now, grandpa. Why? Because your elderly, liver-spotted face is about to get blasted with so much Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 new character info at once, it's going to knock you off your walker and onto your wrinkly behind, inadvertently removing your catheter and crushing your colostomy bag in the process. So seriously, please go read something else, because that's going to be really gross.

Thanks to the most minimal amount of sleuthing ever required to dig up unannounced information for a video game ever, Joystiq managed to find character art assets for all 12 of the new fighters coming to the updated version of MvC3 by, of all things, just looking on Capcom's press site. It was all just right there, ripe for the taking, leading one to believe that this could all be an elaborate ruse, designed to ensnare any sneaky bloggers who might be hunting for a scoop. Or, someone just put some image files live too early. Either seems a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Yup, this is totally happening.

The twelve new characters you'll (allegedly...okay, probably) be playing in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are...

Capcom

Marvel:

I can't wait to watch Phoenix Wright "Objection!" the living hell out of Rocket Raccoon. Believe me, I never thought I'd get to type that sentence in my lifetime, either.

It's probably worth reiterating that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is retail-only, much as Super Street Fighter IV was. According to a statement from Capcom, "We think everything offered in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is worthy of a full retail release. With updates oft he game system, spectator mode, etc. it would be a quite a lot for a DLC update." So, to be clear: If you want these 12 characters and everything else available in the update, you're gonna have to buy a disc.

Here's a gallery of images for all the characters, if you're into that kind of thing.

No thank you Capcom. Not after AE.

This is almost tempting, but then I would be encouraging their practice of "release a game, then a year or less later, re-release the game with an update and charge them just 20$ less what we charged them the first time."  That's a bad practice and it needs to stop.

MVC3 Good edition. Capcom sure is mking good decisions lately 8D.

Bought MvC3 mostly thanks to the Amazon credit for Dead Rising 2 preorder, never really touched it. O well, this looks sweet and Frank West will be my go to.

WHERE IS GENE?!?!?!?!?!

Seriously though, I'm bummed that they decided we needed more Resident Evil and Devil May Cry characters rather than the one missing Clover protagonist. Not that I was gonna buy this game anyways, I don't like supporting the idea of releasing an unfinished product at full price so you can announce the final version five months after launch.

Two words: Phoenix Wright!

#8 Posted by CyleMoore (494 posts) -

I was hoping for Spider-Pig

#9 Posted by Hockeymask27 (3683 posts) -

Oh look in less than a year they found a way to add a real spectator mode.....fuck them.

#10 Posted by Undeadpool (4924 posts) -

I'll admit, these all sound awesome except...Vergil? VERGIL?! The entire pantheon of Capcom games spread open and you give us...Dante-lite. Why not just throw in Evil Ryu, tell us how you REALLY feel?

"I can't wait to watch Phoenix Wright "Objection!" the living hell out of Rocket Raccoon. Believe me, I never thought I'd get to type that sentence in my lifetime, either."

Best line I've read all week.

I'll buy it day 1, especially for Phoenix Wright and Vergil, but I won't be entirely happy about it.

#13 Edited by johnsonic7 (76 posts) -

Vergil seems like a poor choice in my opinion, but I guess I'll have to wait to see him in action to know for sure.

#14 Posted by RampageAssassin (426 posts) -

I wasn't interested in this unless Phoenix Wright was in it. Looks like I'll be picking it up now.

#15 Posted by ghostchant (122 posts) -

so I guess Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3: Arcade Edition will follow next spring

#16 Posted by ricetopher (1046 posts) -

None of these characters interest me. Just release a full change list for the returning characters so I can decide if I want to buy it or not.

#17 Posted by Vexxan (4620 posts) -

Holy shit.

#18 Posted by LiK (921 posts) -

Alex, Joystiq actually sourced NeoGAF for the leak.

#19 Posted by ElCapitan (402 posts) -

I didn't buy MvC3, but adding Phoenix Wright to the mix means I will buy UMvC3.

#20 Posted by Cheesebob (1236 posts) -

Why is there no Mega Man or The Punisher?

#21 Posted by Sauson (561 posts) -

I'm really disappointed with these characters.

#22 Posted by Zaxex (583 posts) -

Kind of sucks, it all being thrown out the same day the game's existence comes to light. Having never been into MvC2 even I got excited when I saw Strider Hiryu; the only time I've seen the character was in a FT15 around the time of MvC3's launch.

I find tournament matches of the game really entertaining; so if they've managed to improve the game and add more content I'm open to it. That said; I'm way less eager to buy it having bought the original MvC3 and never played it. If it's DLC like SSFIV:AE than I don't see a problem, retail release is a little iffier.

But if people like the game and want to buy more of it, more power to them. I'll continue barely understanding what's going on but clapping at the spectacle.

Vergil and Strider. Will buy <3

#24 Posted by AlexanderSheen (4977 posts) -

The fact that Phoenix Wright is in a Fighting game is ... kind of fucking awesome. Take That!

#25 Posted by afrokola (547 posts) -

Cannot wait for this, been saying this game needed a Super or whatever for awhile now. Gonna be sick!

#26 Posted by iAmJohn (6117 posts) -

It's such fucking bullshit and makes me so angry, and yet I know I'll buy it anyway even though I was monumentally disappointed by MvC3. They better have Jill and Shuma Gorath on this fucking disc. >:|

#27 Posted by bkbroiler (1621 posts) -

Man, that Capcom lineup has me excited, and there's no way I'll ever play this game.

#28 Posted by aceofspudz (937 posts) -

Didn't buy MvC3, but the addition of Frank West and Phoenix Wright juuuust might be enough.

#29 Posted by stoodspoon (617 posts) -

Who the hell is Rocket Racoon?

#30 Posted by Yummylee (21559 posts) -

That makes four Resident Evil characters now. Is there any other franchise in there with as many character entries?? Though I suppose that's a dicey question when put against the Marvel side, since each of the singular franchises are always crossing over into another.

Where the fuck is Venom...?

#33 Posted by TurboMan (7515 posts) -

Phoenix Wright in a fighting game has sold me on this fighting game.

#34 Posted by ThePhantomnaut (6197 posts) -

Phoenix Wright will be shit tier. I rather play Rocket Raccoon.

X-Men (Wolverine, Storm, Phoenix, Sentinel, X-23) and Street Fighter (Ryu, C. Viper, Chun Li, Akuma).
#36 Posted by AlKusanagi (917 posts) -

Well, I guess Squirrel Girl would be unfair to include since there's no way she could lose...

#37 Posted by Aetheldod (3556 posts) -

And no new gals???? No thanks capcom

I didn't buy the first even though I had an overwhelming urge to do so, but now that this one will have Vergil and Dante both, I will not be able to resist.

#41 Posted by BooDoug187 (344 posts) -

No Punisher... fuck that!

#42 Edited by Toxin066 (3284 posts) -

I'm a little surprised at how much love Virgil gets, seeing as that character model is only in one DMC game.

#43 Posted by Gerhabio (1977 posts) -

OBJECTION!

Those features should have been on the original release and those characters should be DLC, your Honor!

#44 Posted by TheIronYuppie (120 posts) -

Demon's Crest is one of my favorite SNES games!  So glad to see Firebrand in this......that said, Screw you Capcom!

There's nothing here that couldn't have been released as DLC or heaven forbid, should have been on the original release (spectator mode anyone?)   Mortal Kombat a game that came out monthes later by a smaller developer came out with a much larger feature set and has been tirelessly supported with DLC, INCLUDING FREE costumes for people not interested in the new characters!

Capcom got my original $60 with MvC3 and just like Street Fighter 4 before is now expecting me to drop another $40 for an incremental upgrade?  No thanks, Capcom I'm out.

welp didn't want this game to begin with but there is always temptation.  Oh, until I see this list of characters and now my 40-60 dollars are safe.

Ah, well they're both fighting game franchises anyway so it's more understandable that they'd have a fair few representatives. I suppose I should of asked ''if there are any other non-fighting game franchises with as many character entries?''

Rocket Raccoon? Really?

#49 Posted by Lazyaza (2176 posts) -

Interesting, I held off on mvc3 because it seemed to lack content but if this version is also cheaper I might just pick it up.

#50 Posted by Fortenium (102 posts) -

Phoenix Wright and Frank West? You win, Capcom! Take my money which would have been used to buy Mega Man Legends 3!
