@Mesoian Just a few quick rebuttals. Ghost Rider-Jump S is a gimmick. Ghost Rider loses flat out to anyone with a horizontal projectile in the air or the brain to super-jump. Guest me, after running a GR team for a month I know. It's just like Sentil, blows people up if they are clueless and gets blown up if people use their heads for a second. Nemesis-Jump S is functionally the same as Hulk's jump S. Are you going to argue that Hulk is brokenly good also? Hawkeye/Strange-Those hypers do very little damage, about as much as hitting the enemy with H 3 times. They are hardly spammable, especially with the reduced meter gain, and are incredibly unsafe on block. Nova-Because of damage scaling, Nova can only ToD the lowest health characters off of a throw and that's if he can fulfill a very specific set of circumstances with positioning and the proper assists. This is going beyond the fact that you should never get thrown because you can now always tech even if you're thrown mid-attack (that's a whole other issue). Vergil-Rapid Slash is different from Berserker Slash because it comes out significantly slower and always is a cross-up. Blocking it is no more difficult than blocking a really really really slow overhead. Also combing afterwards cannot be accomplished solely with the aid of assists, he has to burn a meter. Strider-Vajira does not hit overhead. If you can block the point character you can block Vajira. Also only characters that can self OTG can capitalize on the assist. Plus he's made of glass so just scout out one bad call and you can kill him easy peasy. I'm not arguing that these characters are bad, but I have yet to see anything they can do that puts them clearly t the head of the pack.
Well that's the biggest problem here, all these things are gimmicks, but they're gimmicks that are so conventionally effective, there's never a reason to not do them. These gimmicks often end up providing better results then playing smart. I mean honestly, with ghost ride, why bother goading your opponent into an air grab or try to suppress with eat chain, leading into his standard B'n'B when you can often do more damage by just jumping and pressing S? The grand majority of characters can't really do anything about (save for the top 6 since they're all teleport characters or heavy zoning characters), so it's almost encouraged. I mean, we've seen this in Vanilla with Hulk. Hulk has some really good 2 bar 1.7 million damage combos that aren't terribly difficult to do, but who cares when you can just spam jumping H and land a hit 80% of the time. Dormammu has some really interesting double teleport combos that result in a death every single time, but why even bother learning those combos when you can throw down a flame carpet, charge up your powerof spells and wait for them to come to you? The best tools and the fanciest technology is almost superfluous because so many characters have stupid, idiotic dumbfire gimmicky moves....that work better than playing smart. It's the whole Noah thing all over again.
I'll address a few specific bits because I think the above gets my point across and that stuff is really the dumb stuff that kills most of the game, but as for Virgil's rapidslash, yes, it's slow if you use it cold, but you never need to. The fact that you can do LMHcr.Hxxrapidslash means that you will get hit by the tail end of that combo, blocking or not, 95% of the time because of the way this game handles left right mixups. It's not ACTUALLY invincible like wolverine's berserker slash but it's practically teh same thing considering if you counter attack at any point before or durinig the move, you're instantly punished, and dumbest of all, it's safe on whiff; nearly everything virgil has is safe on whiff, which doesn't make any sense to me. As for Vaija, I spent quite a while playing someone who specializes in a Dante Strider Viper team and using Vaija and low attack at the same time will give you an "unblockable". Now, there are no true unblockables in this game, but you can't block high and low at the same time, so one of them is going to hit you. And of course, all 3 of those cats and pick you back up. In fact, most of the cast has a natural OTG now, so it works for quite widely.
But of course none of that matters because Wesker is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. Why even bother using anything other than VWD, or WDA. I use the characters I like, but I know if I ever went to a good competition, i'd be eliminated immediately because my team fundamentally is not on the same level as the top tier. And I think that's what kills this game, the fact that you can't win just using anyone because the tier system is so extreme.
