    Overview

Ultraman: Kaijuu Teikoku no Gyakushuu (approximately "Counter-Offensive of the Monster Empire") is an FDS game featuring the famous kaiju-fighting tokusatsu character Ultraman. It is the first of three games developed for the Famicom Disk System to feature the character and other elements from the Ultraman universe.

Bandai published the game, having acquired the rights to do so from the creators of the TV show Tsuboraya Productions (a credit for which appears on the game's title screen), but it is unclear which particular freelance developer studio they used to actually create it.

    Gameplay

The majority of the game is spent as Hayate, a raygun-sporting agent of the Science Special Search Party, an organization founded to defend the Earth from alien threats. He is limited to a short jump and his raygun, though both tend to be sufficient for taking care of smaller enemies and other minor obstacles.

Should Hayate collect enough power from fallen enemies (and from the environment), he is able to transform into Ultraman: A building-sized robotic fighter with a range of special powers. However, Hayate can only stay as Ultraman for three minutes, and all of Ultraman's powers save his basic fighting moves can only be used once per transformation. At the end of each stage (and occasionally partway through) there is a different kaiju from the TV show that Hayate needs to defeat. It is highly recommended that the player find a way to transform into Ultraman if they wish to defeat these larger foes.

    Kaiju

The bosses Ultraman faces are collectively called kaiju. They are each a powerful, gigantic opponent that requires Ultraman's special powers to defeat. They appear in the following stages:

    • Stage 1: Gabora
    • Stage 2: Telesdon, Gomora
    • Stage 3: Pestar
    • Stage 4: Red King, Geronimon
    • Stage 5: Seabozu, Zambolar
    • Stage 6: Antlar
    • Stage 7: Hydra, Dorako
    • Stage 8: Fake Ultraman, Alien Zarab
    • Stage 9: Kiyla
    • Stage 10: Kiyla, Alien Baltan
    • Stage 11: Zetton
