A very well done, very linear experience
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune isn't going to throw anything new at you that you haven't seen in a video game (or a story) before, but the game does have its charms.
The gameplay for the most part consists of gun battles and platforming sequences intertwined with each other to keep things interesting. The gun play for the most part is good, the enemies sometimes feel like they can take a bit too much damage and don't really appear to react to getting shot as well as I'd like, but they generally put up an interesting fight and will duck behind cover to avoid your fire. The platforming sequences are nice; my biggest disappointment with them being that they feel, well almost too scripted. Every time you jump it feels pre-determined that you're going to make it, and interesting environments breaking tend to happen AFTER you're to safety, so you never really feel as much urgency as I think you could during any of the sequences. You don't even have a meter that says how long you can hold on to something (like in Metal Gear).
The graphics are very good, they still for the most part hold up today...what you'll probably find most interesting is just the scenes themselves are typically very cool, between the thick jungles, and the ancient ruins your often exploring. The story definitely adds a lot and is probably the biggest highlight of the game...great voice acting, the characters are stereotypical...but somehow are still interesting.
Either way if you're looking for a good PS3 game, you really can't go wrong here, you're going to get a very guided 7-9 hour experience, but one you won't regret if you give it a chance.
