So. Painful. To watch. But. Can't stop!

Kinda like like when one used to play the game, back in the days.

Dan at least has the excuse of never playing the game before.

To me, the most fascinating part of this is learning about WoW as a game, and getting even more perplexed as to why people play so much of it. But it's not for me, I've known that for a very long time.

"A slight breeze comes by and the ref is knocked out for 45 minutes."

No Caption Provided

I present to you the greatest moment in our sport.

What is happening to the ref? Is his mind being assassinated?

The spot was supposed to be that Bully Ray hits the ref with Bobby Roode as he is lifting him up for the powerbomb, meaning the ref is knocked out for the breaking of the table which would have been either an instant DQ for Bully Ray (or he would have won, I can't remember what type of match it was).

The problem is that is super fucking dangerous for everyone. Powerbombs work by having the person being picked up kick themselves up into the air. Putting a person in the way stops the momentum so Bully Ray would have to legit lift Roode from mid-powerbomb, which would either end with Bully getting hurt or Roode being dropped on his head/neck/face.

So instead of doing that, they left enough room to do it safely and tried to use a camera change to hide the fact there was no contact. The ref however didn't react quickly enough, does a dance and then falls. Leaving us with the magic that we see there.

TLDR: Wrestling is super dumb!

Yea that dungeon was painful. I've never played WoW but damn.

If you've ever played an RPG (single or multiplayer) you should be kinda familiar with the concept of a "tank", "healer" and "damage".

And the stuff that has nothing to do with the fact that it's a MMO like taking a teleporter and not recognizing someplace you've been before and being completely bewildered lol

Definitely cringe worthy stuff but I guess that's what makes it worth watching. But also part of me wants Dan to get a feel for the authentic MMO experience by being taught specific instructions on how to do things and if you don't do it right then people will yell at you.

Enjoying this and I too was waiting for Dan's raid party to send him hate for his play. Know next to nothing about WoW myself, so it would be cool to get Rorie on the rest of these vids to drip-feed info to Dan should he need it. Dan said he wants to play blind but it seems like he's got questions..bring on Rorie!

Well generally people who have been playing Wow for a while have become very very tolerant of complete newbies who don't know anything running the starting dungeons.

They are super simple to do, so they don't require everyone to be on the ball, half the team can screw up completely and it wont matter. As you saw Dan was probably doing more harm then good and they still handled stuff with ease.

Berating a clueless person in the very first dungeons in the game has been kind of a faux-pas for a long time now. Everyone kind of takes it easy. It's not untill quite a bit later that people start to take idiocy in dungeons more seriously.

All that, plus it's a server specifically for new people, so the tolerance levels are even higher.

PS: (lingo wise it's not a raid, just a group, raids are bigger)

I don't know why I'm watching these. I burned out on WoW so hard, MMOs in general now that I think about it. The genre is dead to me. ...yet this is kind of fascinating. It's fun to see it through Dan's eyes, and interesting to see what that one big game in the genre became.

Absolutely amazed that Dan''s group in Deadmines didn't kick him. Not even a threatening whisper. Game is so easy now one party member could run around in circles and not effect the group.

Diablo was kind of popular, and it's concepts especially so, right? The nature of leveling up, getting loot, such a treadmill with a delicious carrot on a stick appeals to a lot of people. Heck these concepts permeated into every big genre now.

So imagine Diablo except with: a completely massive open world, persistent, with thousands of people playing in it at the same time, much more content, challenges for single people or for teamwork, be it casual challenge or super hard shit, multiple storylines big and small, the entirety of quite extensive Warcraft lore backing it up, constantly chatting with people if you want, showing off your hard earned bling to others, and more content and variety keeps getting added over the years, etc

It's like a formula for addiction and sucess. So hope that removes the perplexity? :)

Also keep in mind so far you are learning very little about the game's possibilities (from this series anyway), remember this is watching a very clueless person (no offense meant) and not just in MMO's but to a lot of common RPG concepts in general, play with the frequently bad advice being given, in the super early basic tiny bit of the game.

I don't know why, but it's almost painful to watch this and have Dan basically get more confused due to the people trying to "help" him... I was hoping Rorie would be more prevalent in this series so it was educational. Oh well, guess it's time to view this as less of an interest piece and more of a funny video series...

Man, original WoW was super cool. There are certain ways it is definitively better now, but nothing beats those early mysteries. The nostalgia for an online game is always so strange.

Kinda funny to see how much FFXIV stole from this game for the 2.0 reboot. The objective list, the party finder, the compass, the chat, the lotting system, the UI in general, etc. I already knew they did that, but I didn't realize how close they copied it.

It's a lot better than FFXIV 1.0 at least, which didn't even acknowledge that other MMOs existed.

Hm. I played this when it first was in beta and stuck with it for a couple of years. When I tried it a bit after the expansion where the fire dragon remade all the starter areas - Ironforge had already become a ghost town and everyone hung out in Stormwind. Like the hundreds from IF were everywhere there. No idea why. Maybe all the matchmaking made travel redundant?

Dan just seems to have the hardest of times comprehending what an MMO is. He talks about watching the credits after beating the final boss. Or how "there must be hundreds of quests" when he probably already did a hundred while not even having been to Ironforge, much less visited another continent. Also, boy were these poor bastards lucky Brad didn't convince Dan to queue as a tank.

The new Zones in cata for max level were so spread out across the continents they added portals to each one, and those portals were in stormwind. not to mention the raid and pvp vendors were there too.

Even as a current heroic raider in MoP this was still very fun to watch. Rez sickness before a dungeon, taunting everything, using the teleporter right before the final boss was pulled. Brad not knowing anything current also made it more maddening. I did enjoy Brad talking about the people standing outside of the Ironforge Bank. Dat nostalgia.

Another +1 for Rorie coming in. Though I think Rorie could confuse Dan if he tries to fix everything lol. I trust Rorie to take it slow.

Very entertaining series. Watching Dan is probably a lot like it would be watching myself stumbling around during my first MMO hours. I always clearly identify myself as a newbie from the start though and that has, so far, led to nothing but surprisingly friendly help that accelerated learning by a lot. I only ever got half-serious about LoTRO though. That community really seemed to look out for newcomers even when they got flooded by FTP fools like myself.

GB coverage continues to be the only MMO-centered stuff I actually bother to watch. I'm glad stuff like this is coming back. Nothing will replace "Not like this" but content in this vein is still quite good!

Its a level 16 shit-tier dungeon, why are you people cringing? He's learning, the enemies aren't that hard. Now if he were in a 40 man level 90 raid, then you can cringe to your pretty little nerd-heart's content.

If it were a 40 man level 90 raid I would be impressed.

Because there is no such thing as a 40 man level 90 raid.
