I am watching this just to laugh at Dan. I am not going to reinstall WoW.

REALLY tempted to go back but I think I did the best thing I could to my characters when I left last time. I made all my guys naked, and gave/sold everything away. Now even if I wanted to go back, the idea of having to get all my gear/gold back is not something I want to do.

Nothing stays in bags when you unequip them! As long as there is enough slots to cover the items inside it, it will let you swap it.

So hard to watch, yet I can't stop.

Why doesn't someone explain the basic concepts of aggro and dps? That Deadmines run fucking kills me, and I haven't played wow in 7 years.

It's not because he's bad. It's because he's gonna have a bad time later on if he sticks with it.

When I get to my home computer at some point, I have a picture of myself licking the game box on the day WoW came out.

Man, that was years ago...

Super conflicted about watching these. It can be painful because of the poor execution at times but more importantly I nostalgia pretty damn hard. I played vanilla through arena S3 hard and loved it. Now an adult with a house, family and executive position seeing this old stuff years later makes me miss it a lot. I wouldn't trade my life now but still miss it. None the less my friends were what probably made this game so great anyways and we've all moved on. Just a distant memory that will likely never be recaptured.

@overdeezpecans: Okay, that makes sense. I've watched a few people stream it and it seemed enjoyable enough to me, but when I actually discussed it with my friends who played it I was warned against it.

You explained it better than anyone else I've talked to thus far, though. Thanks!

@rabbithearted: ESO isn't bad. Just unbalanced at the moment. If you pick the wrong class/race you're screwed. Currently the meme with the crowd playing is Elder Staves Online, if you like magic builds it's a solid experience. If you like the assassin/thief wait until thieves guild/Dark brotherhood comes out. IMO, wait for the justice system, Theivery, and NPC murder to come out in a month or two.

This was so painful to watch. Hopefully Rorie is on the next episode and will fill him with information that isn't 8+ years outdated.

It was painful, but it was absolutely entertaining to watch him completely stumble through Deadmines and yet still succeed.

This makes me want to play an MMO, but not WOW because I want to experience a semblance of newness.

What I'm saying is, why is ESO apparently a bad game because goddamn I wanna play the hell out of it and be amazed like I was when I played WOW for the first time.

@brad is absolutely right, there is no going back, there is no recapturing the magic of your first MMORPG. The Beta days and Vanilla are gone, which is probably a good thing.

FFXIV being the last MMO I really seriously played, I look at WoW at this point (and having not played it in about seven years, like Brad) it amazes me just how old this game looks. Not just old, but ugly, and cluttered. The environments and animations just look so aged. The sound design is just so nothing.

I feel like, for all the talk about how this game has supposedly evolved with the times so well to out-maneuver their competition, so much of the things they've complained about, or wished would be made more clear and concise, games like FFXIV actually do much slicker. I get why Dan would obviously be introduced to WoW if he's never played an MMO before, but I feel like this game gets a bit of undue reverence in the year 2014.

It has been, regardless, very entertaining.

Agreed, and while XIV might not ever be at 6 million members as long as they take care of the 2 million or so that they have and keep them happy and coming back the game will have an extremely long life and be profitable for them. Hell, XIV was one of the large reasons they dug themselves out of a financial hole and actually posted profit for the first quarter.

My favorite part of this feature is all of the out of date misinformation Brad and Jeff are spewing at Dan. Rorie should be saved until the last episode where he can tell Dan everything he's done wrong up until now.

I agree. Dan did say that he wanted to go in with little information. Taking Jeff and Brad makes him effectively blind. They should hold off on Rorie's involvement until the last episode.

Dan's inability to recognize where the CerebralButt character came from is an amazing example of the oblivious joy and wonder he brings to the site. Simply amazing.

So all the "skulls" you saw were probably other players, Horde players to be specific. And when a npc or enemy faction player is 10 or more lvls higher you see a skull :)

Love this series btw. Bringing back memories after my 8 years with the game :)

PS: Brad make a great co-host on these shows. Cheers/new subscriber :)

I don't know if this is a coincidence, but the Alliance starting zones on Aerie Peak are surprisingly lively right now.

Aeire Peak is a "new Players' realm where new accounts are directed. And with the implementation of cross-realm zones, all the old zones are packed with people.

Seriously. Relax people.

It was the same doing the Souls stuff. You can't just enjoy the content?

to me a lot of these people are genuinely concerned that Dan is going to get fucking flamed the shit out of because he doesn't know how to play in a game that most people have several max toons already. I hope he doesn't do any more dungeons until rorie helps him because I dont want him getting kicked just for being a novice. Hell I've got one max and several other close to max and I still get flamed for 'playing my class wrong'

Oh god. I really feel like playing WoW again after watching these. I've finished pretty much all the Cataclysm content and would like to check out some of the Pandaria stuff before Warlords comes out.

Really looking forward to the next episode of the adventures of Cerebralass. Keep it up Dan. You'll be hooked in no time!

It shows how even though Blizzard have taken steps to mitigate all the required knowledge for this game, you still basically need someone to tell you wtf is going on with all the terminology and concepts.

Yeah, this series is really entertaining, but I'm going to break my monitor tapping the thing Dan should be doing rather than what he actually is, thinking back though, this is exactly how I would have been playing my first characters, leaving quests midway, not picking the right rewards, it's just the way someone who genuinely doesn't know the intricacies of the game would play it.

so, lets get the advice off my chest.

Don't pick agility as a warrior, always take strength.

Don't taunt, you're not a tank, you don't need it.

Don't waste time throwing weapons.

If you aggro too much or too high a level enemy just run, they will eventually give up.

Disregard any leather or cloth items, they aren't for you.

Don't assume the next zone over is in a direct path, a lot of ways will be blocked by impassable mountains or other terrain.

Set up a second action bar, you'll be needing it soon.

Put the red potions on your bar, drink when you're about to die.

In dungeons only hit what the tank is hitting, only walk behind the tank until you know there isn't a boss right ahead, don't release and run in wait for a ress, although you might have to ask the healer to ressurect you, that's why you failed the quest, you were out of the dungeon when the goblin dude died, so you missed the rest of the chain, and the Buzzer Blade.

Don't expect any of this to be read but it makes me feel better, when I last /played at the end of cataclysm I had 380 days, so lets hope that year of my life helps someone do something.

This.

I'm not usually someone to complain that someone is "playing wrong" or whatever, but jesus christ that deadmines run. I think I speak for others who have left a similar comment, it's not like we want Dan to feel bad or anything, it was just really bad. Luckily the group he dropped into was totally ok with him doing absolutely nothing the whole time, so props to them. I'm pretty amazed though, usually people are expected to at least pull a bit more weight. I think he totally lucked out and probably would have been flamed / kicked like 7/10 times with that kind of behavior.

I also agree that having people who only kind of know what they are talking about (Brad / Jeff) is entertaining, but at this point I think it would just be a lot more beneficial for Rorie to step in and just help him out. It's fun to discover things, but at some point it would probably help Dan appreciate the game more if he could have someone point him in the right directions.

As playing a tank and healer at that level, I can almost be assured that 1.5 members of the party are going to be non-functioning. I can only hope that the healer has some experience.

At Dan's level, it doesn't matter who's paying attention too much. It's only dungeons around the late 30's or early 40's (Sunken Temple comes to mind) where group interplay comes to the forefront.

It's been an absolute delight watching the MMO scene unfold in front of Dan, so I can't wait for the Rorie <-> Dan MMO chat where Rorie explodes Dan's mind like a scene from Scanners when he talks about group composition and precise positioning make the difference between wipes and progression.
