I don't know what Rorie is talking about - those first months of super hard dungeons in Cataclysm were probably the most fun I've had with the game. I didn't play Burning Crusade, so I just might not know better, but running those dungeons with my guildmates in QUEST GEAR was so much fun. Too bad it all quickly changed, when all the nerfs started.

Yeah, I liked those too, running with a group of guildies who all were on vent and knew their characters. I can very well understand how it could be frustrating with randoms though, I tanked through most of it and it was rough at times.

@bearpawb: Yeah, I've seen the pictures and they do look a lot better. Do you know if they are doing any work on the animations? The human running animation in particular always looked super dumb to me.

If the next episode is the last one, i hope we get to see Rorie take Dan on a tour around Azeroth with one of his 90 level characters. Just picture the magic carpet ride scene from Aladdin, but only with these two duders.

Thanks to this feature, got back into WoW and played nothing but it last week. Currently a level 27 Draenai shaman. Man do you level up fast in the game. I never reached max level (furthest was level 37 I think with my night-elf warrior) but deleted that character since it put me in the middle of nowhere after the big pre-Cataclysn release patch and gave up. I just like playing it casually and not get super serious with the resource gathering, professions and the like but quest, do dungeons and get cool loot. Played FF XIV: ARR that way and had a blast.

It's been a while, but isn't that small house right beside where they were trying to pet battle the place where you can buy a few different cats for an inconsequential amount of silver? Also battle pets tend to be listed for more on the auction house than the regular companion pets, most of which can be converted at a click of a button.

What's a good primer for someone who's never played WoW and is interested in learning the basics - game mechanics, character classes, etc?

This series is constantly making me want to resub for a month. It's excruciating hahaha. The last episode I wanted to grab the keyboard out from under Dan and say "No, not like that, let me do it! No you're DPS, go attack! GAAH!" That being said, Dan, keep up the good work I love it!

Strangletorn might be for the best. There is a quest to get a pet raptor there. http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29208

Rorie said he didn't have any mail when the mail icon was on the screen. I'm sure his mail box is overflowing with good stuff from users. Probably good that he's leaving it alone though as it might make it too easy for him.

I like how Dan thinks 14 silver is a lot of money to spend repairing his stuff.

Don't know how/why Dan travels around with no health potions, bandages, or food. I remember getting potions at the auction house for pretty cheap.

Used to love exploring Duskwood and Stranglethorn. I unfortunately played on a PvP server so I got killed by Horde players a lot in Stranglethorn.

That free Hearthstone mount seems pretty neat.

I may check this out some time next year. So much content to explore and I really like the variety of the zones. It was always cool to go from a farmer's field to Halloweentown to a jungle in a relatively short time.

I've heard from a friend that certain new players who play with friends get crazy XP bonuses that make leveling even quicker.

If there's only one more episode in this feature I will cry for a figurative 3000 hours.

Needs to be Dan's adventure to 90 and beyond if he thinks he'll continue to play in his private time. I cracked up so many times listening to GI videos where he'd refer to RPG guys as dorks and crack up at himself. One of us. One of us.

Okay, this was interesting, but I just hit the limit for how much more WoW I can take. I'd be up for a closure episode when Dan feels done with the feature though. I'd like to hear his thoughts at the end and see how far he got.

The ongoing saga of Cerebral Ass is my third favorite thing on the site now. The other two are Demo Disc Derby and Pogs.

Yeah, Draenor being fifty goddamn dollars is really putting me off. I kinda feel like they should give you new expansions free if you haven't subbed in a long time. I have Cataclysm on my account, and don't know how that happened, since I haven't played it since WOTLK.

It actually was a real creature, though it's been extinct for around 10,000 years now. Canis dirus, the dire wolf, was named in 1858, so that name precedes the use of dire wolves in fantasy fiction by quite some time.

It is, actually. It went extinct about 10,000 years ago. It inhabited the Americas for almost 2 million years.

I know Brad is mostly joking, but come on man if this game had stayed the way it was at launch nobody would be able to get past the classic content, and into the expansions, most of which are far more interesting and enjoyable than classic WoW ever was. Now that all expansions up to Cataclysm come free with a new copy of the game you cant really blame them for wanting to get people out of the classic zones faster and into the cool stuff that has been added since.

If people or @danryckert want to experience that wonder of playing an open world RPG where you can stumble onto monsters that are way higher level than you but you can still attempt to fight them then you should try Dragon's Dogma

I do second that. Fought a few monsters I definitely should not have in that game. The battles were really hard but rewarding. One with a Chimera had me scrambling around rocks for a long while feeling for my life while I whittled it down.

Dan's adventures make me want to play WoW again but when I look at what I'd need to pay it's a real turn off.

My last expansion was Cataclysm so I'd need to buy Pandaria ($20) and then eventually the new one ($50) on top of $15/mo.

If you upgrade your account with Mysts and Warlords at the same time, I'm pretty sure Blizzard knocks $10 off. $60 instead of $70. Every little bit helps, yeah?

@larrydavis: Why should they give out the newest expansion for free to people whom haven't been supporting them for months/years? That wouldn't sit well with the more loyal paying customers who are expected to pay $50 just like everyone else.
