EDIT: Hm, well, it looks pretty good. They won't actually deliver as well as hype says they will on this story of making Chief more humane and having Cortana deal with her impending death, but I hope it comes across well enough to be interesting and not campy or badly done.

Also, I knew about motion capture but I didn't know that this was going to look like making a movie.

I thought the voice of the motion capture actress for Cortana sounded better when she yelled that line. Sounds kinda campy when Jen does it...

They trump it up, but the actual dialouge of the story speaks volumes for its quality. Less ensemble and more stranger in a strange land would do wonders.

I know this video is way over dramatic but man I am so fucking excited for this godamn game

the story of these games has always been crap, i dont think this is going to be any different. and nothing in this video shows otherwise. overly dramatic, self serious garbage. a halo game has never earned an emotional moment.

Game is looking awesome and i'm sure i'll play it. But this video is so annoyingly overblown. You guys wanted hollywood? You got it. I'm just glad they actually dug a bit deeper and showed concept work and some people who are actually making the game and working every day. Other than that it is so blown out. AAA is kind of dying. What is left is now following each other down the path of expensive actor names, overblown expensive videos, lies, and exaggerations. They could spend some of the money from this video on an experimental gameplay element or something.

Honestly...I don't think I want to play another halo. Master Chief isn't some introspective dude. And I don't want him to be. In my mind he died on that ship. I'm not ruling out this game entirely, but I just don't give a shit. Also all the people in this video save 1 or 2 couldn't look less interested.

We'll at least they seem genuinely passionate about it. Also its nuts that the VAs for Master Chief and Cortana never met before now.

That was actually pretty good.

Steve Downes is older looking than I thought he was. I NEVER seem to get the right mental image in my head for voice actors... although Tara Strong was about as cute as I thought she'd be.

"Experimental gameplay elements" sound awesome in theory. But if your experiment fails, you have now earned the ire of Halo's army of fans. New gameplay ideas work best with new IPs.

Cool video, I really liked the bits about all the detail on the armor. They picked appropriate music this time as well. Hopefully no more dubstep trailers.

I love making-of videos too, but this one ain't one really. It's jut another one of these overblown "Developer Diaries" where instead of showing us how some work is done for a couple minutes you actually just get a lot of cut footage between multiple developers sitting in front of a green screen. And as often, in this case too they basically just promise heaven.

I love butts.

Also this video is weirdly overedited, lol the soundtrack at the start. I don't really care about the game anyway.

I dont care whats its for but they have to have a Medal and a Callout in that Halo Multiplayer Announcer voice that says "WOLFKILL!"

I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like they have a bunch of hacks handling the story. Invoking "A hero's journey" is a huge red flag, indicative of people who don't know what they're doing. I bet they also cling to a 3-act structure because they just don't know any better. Again, I hope I'm wrong. The campaigns are the most important part of Halo games for me.

Um, what? Don't understand why invoking a hero's journey and sticking to a three act structure is sign of bad-ness. Lots of great fiction use a similar story structure.

Heck, Star Wars uses it, the original trilogy.

Hitting the beats of the "Hero's Journey" and following a 3-act structure does not indicate anything about the quality of a story. They are just crutches used by people who are painting by numbers, rather than creating. Do you think the guy who wrote the Epic of Gilgamesh had a copy of "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" on hand to guide him along? Of course not. The whole point of the monomyth is that it describes a structure (some would argue oversimplifies) that arises organically across history. It is ONLY notable because storytellers came by it honestly and obliviously. Now it's being used as a how-to guide by every hack on the planet.

It doesn't mean Halo 4's story will be bad, it just means that the people making that story are more likely to fall into those old familiar traps than just about every video game story encounters. It's just a shame that they would gather such a talented team at 343, yet leave the creative end to people who are working from a damn checklist.

@SmokePants: Didn't the video explicitly explain that the Chief had already been on his Hero's Journey and was a hero, so they were taking this story in a different, more personal direction?

Obviously it will have plenty of tropes of that classic style, but I find it odd that you are latching onto something that they explicitly addressed in the video.

Obviously, Cortana has been and is sexualized, but she looks much more voluptuous, and what gets me even more is that it looks like she has ginormous hips. It's borderline creepy now. In Halo 1, it wasn't as noticeable, now it seems blatantly obvious what their intent is.
