I thought "talkin' mess" was the same as saying "talkin' shit." I didn't feel like 343 was shitting all over the game they were making. The did, however, talk a bunch of mess/yang about Brad.

This video did a good job of unselling me on the game. Maybe a rental. I don't know.

This looks... of lower quality than Halo 3/Reach.

Is it slated for 2014?

I enjoy HALO games, but the multiplayer is not the draw it used to be... that actually makes me sad as a gamer. I miss 2001 and 2002 LAN parties with HALO. Those where the days.

It's interesting how people are disappointed by this Halo game being like Halo.

I honestly didn't like halo 4 too much. It wasn't Halo enough. They changed what was important to halo. When i played it at PAX, as a huge halo fan, i walked away sad.

Seriously. I can understand some long-time Halo fans being initially a little apprehensive towards some changes to the otherwise working formula, but bitching that a Halo game looks like a Halo game? Huh?

I don't see those folks whining every time Street Fighter is Street Fighter, Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy, or [insert stale Nintendo franchise] is [insert stale Nintendo franchise].

Why is there this apparent need to automatically dismiss any FPS as generic 'dudes shooting dudes' games unworthy of further consideration?

It looks fine. Hell, for a fairly milked franchise it looks good. And given the development situation, the fact that it looks like Halo could be considered a good thing.

@MonkeyKing1969: Big weapons do no damage? Well, you're a genetically enhanced super-soldier in a suit of armor with a built-in force-field shielding system. Yeah, it might take two rockets to kill you... You can still be sniped from across the map and taken out with one head shot. You can still play in modes without shields where basically everything bigger than a pistol/assault rifle kills you almost immediately. Some asshole with a sword, hammer, shotgun, or well-thrown grenades can still run around ruining everyone's day.

And yes, pistols can be better for distant shots. Did I mention that genetically enhanced super-soldier in a suit of armor also has a built in targeting/aiming system? As such, powerful pistols with little to no recoil to speak of can be deadly accurate at a distance as opposed to large, unwieldy assault rifles and SMGs that take the quantity over quality approach to ammunition.

Of all the things to complain about in Halo, the weapons were never really that big of an issue. They make sci-fi video game sense. Taking the franchise to task over that might as well be complaining about light sabers. Talk about crazy shit that makes no sense. We don't, though, because it's called science fiction for a reason.

Word. Halo LAN parties by my friends' houses with a couple XBoxes wired together were some of the best gaming experiences I've had. Joining those same friends online these days is fun, but it just doesn't quite feel the same.

Can't wait for this game. Yeah, the loadouts and different specializations might have been influenced by a certain other game, but the core gameplay is still Halo.

Pff really? Is it? I didn't see looking down the sight, two shot kills, lying prone in corners, one hit melee, an AC 130, or any nukes, did I miss something here?

"27 Seconds Time to Brad... which is my new term for, "Time to Death"... seeing as how Brad dies a lot".

:) These 343 guys are alright!

I do feel bad for Bradford though. Poor dude. I doubt I would do much better with the makers of the frickin' game looking over my shoulder.

I respect the amount sick burn being issued by 343, it's rare that devs can be themselves when doing something this high-profile.

Actually, that would necessitate making each individual needler *less* awesome, in order to balance it.

Besides, with AA's and sprint, there is no goddamn way they could fit dual wielding into the button schemes.

@big_jon: You missed the part where there's now perks and killstreaks. Some basic things not being changed doesn't mean they didn't completely abandon Halo multiplayer to chase the money. They're about having text in the middle of the screen whenever you do something now. I like arcade shooters with power weapons, not shooters where grinding gives you an advantage.

However, while the players that have played for a while are using the weapons they've earned, the players who are just coming into the game are getting points for assists, killjoys, comeback kills, distractions, and they're making progress as well. It's a different kind of economy, but it's not bad. Besides, people grind for dozens of hours in Halo anyways, might as well make it towards an end.

Oh yay, I'm going to be making progress while the people that do nothing but play the game have features that I don't. That's fun. The only thing you could grind for in Halo multiplayer up to this point is rank and cosmetic changes. That doesn't change the playing field. This does and for people that think that everything has to be towards an end. The Halo games had no problem surviving when the "end" was having fun.

I'd say it's pretty bad. The better system was already there and they changed just to attract the CoD crowd, which makes it worse.

It's interesting to see how people are disappointed by it being more halo but others being disappointed by it being more cod. To me it seems like there is enough changes to make the avid halo players, the ones that probably still play, not like it because it's to different. But there is not enough changes to make the gameplay different enough for casual fans to notice the changes...

Good point. I hope the changes weren't made merely for that reason, but it is pretty blatant.

I've had similar skepticism about their intentions ever since they botched the control scheme - Bumper Jumper has since been fixed thankfully - but now I'm under the impression that the new loadout modifiers won't affect the playing field to the point of reducing the reliance on pure shooting skill. They already experimented down this path with Reach, so hopefully Halo 4 addresses what was wrong with that game. But I agree, Halo at its core has always been perfect without the extra doodads they've tacked on over the years.

With the removal of the ability to pick up grenades (unless you have the appropriate support module - I know, I know, perks, bear with me) it really, really feels like it's a gun-focused game. Halo 3 felt like melee was the focus, Reach, often the nuclear grenades and sprint double melees... this feels like a return to aiming skill.

Wow Brad, you suck at Halo. :X

It's going to be hard to choose between using the Battle Rifle and using the DMR each respawn. I wish 343 had kept the health system from Halo: Reach intact, though; shields only isn't my preferred Halo health system-style.

aside from the Halo 4 vs. COD discussions and whether this Halo will actually be a Halo game....why when Brad picked up the flag towards the end of the video did he have the magnum when he his loadout was actually the boltshot? Intentional or bug?

All they were doing was playing off the "Brad is bad at games" meme that has been eternally perpetuated on this site. Nobody here really has a legitimate complaint when other people do it. Brad obviously didn't give a shit.

Halo died the minute they introduced the new engine and run mechanic, utterly terrible... Oh wait, and jet packs.
