@Raven_Sword: Universal and Fox were co-financing the film. Fox was set to release it in North America and Universal releasing it worldwide. The budget was $145 million, Fox and Universal pulled out apparently after they failed to get Microsoft and the filmmakers to reduce their cut of the earnings. There were rumors that it would start production again with Microsoft possibly financing the whole thing but that never surfaced and Neill Blomkamp got fed up with waiting, swore off working on anything Halo-related and went on to make District 9. 
 
So basically Studio Politics killed the Halo movie and it has not recovered yet, but Microsoft is obviously happy to spend a decent amount of money on these commercials.

Good looking trailer. Why don't they make Halo games that look thematically like this instead of the cartoony colorful cap gun crap. They made Master Chief so bad ass in the novels yet everything in the games just don't live up to the fiction. I'll pass on the games and just keep reading.

I think it's more look like action movie seriousness where they know what they are doing and although it seems serious it isn't.

Agreed. The Halo 3 commercial with the old man  and the museum one were ridiculously melodramatic. This live action short would have been better without the somber music, like those Halo 3 live action shorts. It's trying to be emotional, but you know in the actual game you'll be running over high pitched grunts in a warthog or something.

Freaking epic, sure the game probably won't be so emotional or dramatic, but still... This reminds me of that Halo 3 commercial which had Raindrop Prelude as the music, that was epic as well.

Actually I'm pretty excited for Reach and this is a pretty good trailer but they just don't seem to live up to ones from Halo 3.

Yeah, and why would the guys want to talk about Halo on the bombcast when there are such ground-breaking games like Starcraft and Mortal Kombat to get excited about?  I mean that's the future, right THERE!  How could Jeff get excited about the changes in Forge or matchmaking or Bungie.net functionality? I mean it's not like you can SHOOT DOWN UAVs or anything, you know.... exciting like that.
 
I just hit my snotty-retort quota for the week in one post.  I'm sorry, but I had to let off some steam.  Don't take any of this too personally.  In fact, I really like CoD and Battlefield.  People who seem to despise Halo always come across as someone who has never actually played it.

Why don't they implement the trailer idea's into the actual game. Like flying sideways in a barrelroll:P.
If the game would take the art direction from the trailers it would be much cool,er grittier. Halo remains far to cartoony.

Isn't that basically any big game franchise now?  That's why they build up a brand and it's recognition.  It could be Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, Gears, Battlefield, anything Blizzard or Valve, or anything really.  People like things and more of that thing.

I totally understand why you did it though. Halo haters make me vent like that on occasion too. I can never understand why a series that consistently pushes the bar and does things differently gets so much hatred. Colors, people!  Remember those? That alone should garner some excitement, not to mention the incredible technical feats Bungie has managed.  
 
I mean, Forge World! Do you think any other console FPS developer would allow players that much freedom to create content? Or even the freedom to move the camera around freely in an open 3D space? A studio has to pretty damn confident in their art assets to allow players to just look around in ever nook and cranny like that. 
 
So let's hear it. I want a coherent argument against the Halo franchise. Nothing subjective either. None of this "it's too cartoony" or "too many kids on Xbox Live" bullshit. Actual subjective reasons why Halo "sucks." I'll wait...
