A Brief Look at Natural Selection 2's Newest Map

It's still humans versus monsters in the latest map added to the beta rotation.

Great game

This does look kinda fun.

Anyone ever played gloom before?

Really off putting how the monsters just slide around in first person. I don't understand how we have got to a point where no head bob is acceptable. I wish games put more movement into your viewpoint, like when you land your head should dip etc. It just doesn't look right... Might be easier to play but...

I'm tired of FPS games.

Looks very neat, interesting how this will turn out in the end.

After all, this title has been in development pretty much forever.

Posted by jasius

Looks neat but the first one was so bad on PUBS you really need to know the people you're playing with or it just devolves into a big mess.

Posted by boxoflawls

Oh yeah, I forgot all about this.

God, that music is great.

Brings me back to the days of yelling at the commader to research jetpacks.. haha good times! Looking forward to this!

Fuck, I wish I had $35 right now to jump into that Beta. Been looking forward to this but every time I have money I completely forget it exists.

When I think of natural Selection I think of being in science class. weird

@Chavtheworld: Given how fast they're moving, it's actually probably for the best (in game it's not really noticeable)

The guys at unknown worlds have come so far *sniff*

Posted by Duffyside

... I've never even heard of this game before...

Just out of curiosity, I've seen at least two of these trailers and I've been wondering. Was there ever a story to all of this or has it always been just man on beast action?

Doesn't really bother me either way though, it was just bugging me so I thought I'd ask since some of you seem to be fans.

Do you even know anything about this game?

Or watched the video at all?

Looks pretty heavily inspired by the first level in Doom 3. Always a good thing. The various environments Doom 3 had scattered around its huge Mars base, and the subtly distinct color palettes, sounds, and ambient moods they conveyed were fantastic. When I replay Doom 3 these days, I do it less to relive the scares (you kind of can't), and more to appreciate the massive amount of work that went into detailing the environments and the feelings they were meant to invoke in the player.

Oh, right, NS2. I can't fucking wait.

@Chavtheworld: Try playing the game. Believe me when I say that under no circumstances whatsoever do you want headbob in this.

It's multiplayer only. There is some old backstory that you could probably dig up about the TSA (the marines) on the NS1 site, but that's about it.

I got it as soon as you could buy it because I was a big fan of NS1, and since the early alpha versions, the game has come an incredibly long way. In the recent versions, they've been going back to some NS1 ideas in stead of their replacements, which has improved the game quite a bit. The game currently still lacks some incentive for map control for the marines, especially with the recent resource change.

Still, love seeing it change every patch and eagerly awaiting the final version (and beyond! they won't stop supporting it and it's incredibly easy to mod).

@Arx724: Thanks, was thinking about whether or not I want to try this out. As I stated before it doesn't bother me if it had a story or not but, it does make it easier for me to jump in if there's not one.

Do I need a super high end PC or will it run on a lower end PC?

And I thought Joey couldn't get any more badass...

Toggle lock on that pistol, really? Shine on, you crazy space marines.

Music? Shit's seriously awesome.

@GTCknight:

It's (sadly) heavy on a single CPU core. They've been working on performance for the past few weeks and one of them is currently busy improving it almost full-time, so you may want to hold off if you have an older system. For most people, the GPU isn't the bottleneck for this game.

The wiki page on here, while slightly outdated, is actually a good overview of what the game is like. This channel is also worth checking out.

Did you guys know that the dude in the logo intro is Joey Fameli?

Posted by GTCknight

@Arx724: Again, thanks man.

Posted by McDunkin

I've been playing this off and on since the beta started and it has definitely come a very long way. The biggest downside for me so far is that there is only a handful of maps where as NS1 (eventually) had a really solid map list. Still a great game and definitely worth checking out.

Great game. Been in the beta for ages and it continues to be fun and remarkably stable.

Gloom was fantastic back in the day. Was meant to be updated on the doom 3 engine but then doom 3 kinda flopped. Was super happy to of found NS2.

Posted by SharkMan

game feels great, great to get back to an old style fps, with new graphics. screw iron sights.

Posted by KaneRobot

Loved the old one and played it for countless hours...I think I've kind of moved on though.

Posted by Sarx

This is still under development? I banked it under vaporware long ago.

Posted by Var

@Sarx: Far from it at this point. 1.0 should be out within the next few months

Posted by MeatSim

I will be at the bar while you guys are fighting.

Posted by Nethlem

@Sarx: Uhm it's not vapoware if you can run/play it and they put out versions of this since the very first pre-alpha state, including tools for mapping and modding.

Even the original mod had been "under developement" for years, because these guys have a balance/patch philosphy like blizzard, they constantly rebalance and change things to compensate for balance issues discovered by the playerbase.

Even in it's beta state, the original mod and this full game have gameplay that's far superior to 90% of the "retail stuff" that's getting released all the time. Also let's face it: Breaking games and funny unexpected stuff happening is a major source of fun for videogames ;)
