I'm not sure, wouldn't 2006, when the original Saint's Row came out have been after the GTA 3 fueled open world craze, where the genre had started to settle down? I think 2003 or 2004 would've been the peak, so I think they may be correct in saying that "there wasn't a lot of open world games coming out the same year as Saints Row 1". But I guess Just Cause, Gun and Bully came out the same year, and the stellar Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was released just one year earlier.

Agreed. To say there wasn't a lot of open world games at the time Saints Row 1 came out is insane. GTA's game designed was whored out till oblivion, especially in the previous console generation. I will however accept there there wasn't a lot of good open world games at the time of Saints Row 1.

Thing is, Saints Row original was still labouring until the "GTA-clone" label. From Saints Row 2 onwards, and especially with The Third, they've been able to become there own thing completely separate from GTA.

Apparently Rob Van Dam is voicing a character in this, so maybe he'll be playing a wrestler character like Hogan did in the last one? I'm pretty confident there's going to be more wrestling moves you can do though, just got a feeling. :D

I hope this is the Assassin's Creed II or Uncharted 2 of Saint's Row. Now that they've finished engine work and basic outlines they reel in the technical potential and fill it with content.

Volition kicks so much ass. I remember going through Red Faction: Guerilla and becoming convinced that open-world games can be super fun and play well.

I'm really hoping for a Geo-Mod 3.0 appearance next gen. Doesn't even matter what they use it in, I know the game will be fun.

Not that I don't think the Volition people deserve their time in the spotlight, they do... but wasn't this whole talking-trailer thing THQs bad idea? They did the same with Spacemarine and DoW and stuff. Can't we just have real interviews or something now that THQ is gone?
